Father of books
Naoki Matsuju is known as "the father of Japanese picture books". He believes that reading picture books is a very important part of parent-child time and can plant "seeds of happiness" for children's hearts. So, how to accompany children to read picture books with high quality?

1. Do it yourself, don't entrust others or machines;

Parent-child reading behavior is a way to promote the intimate relationship between parents and children, and parents' investment can pass on affection and love to children. Reading is not a child's study, but a process of experiencing happiness and happiness. Teachers and story machine can't take the place of parents' voices, movements and intonations, just like the news of wolf children. When they grow up, it is difficult to integrate into human society and survive.

2. Parents "read" to their children instead of letting them read picture books alone;

Language is learned from the cultivator. Children's language is not taught, but heard. Dialogue between parents in front of their children, such as tone, rhythm, intonation, etc. It is all passed to the child's ear through the voice, unconsciously recorded, and slowly said from the mouth.

Therefore, it is most important to tell children the stories in picture books with your heart, so that children can inadvertently understand rich and interesting languages. With the experience of listening to language with ears, the next step is reading and writing.

3. Cultivate reading ceremony: holding children's hands, fixed time, comfortable reading environment, etc.

Parents need to choose a time suitable for both sides, not forcing or demanding, and enter the reading time with a peaceful mind; Of course, it is best to fix a time, such as half an hour before going to bed every night or half an hour in the morning on weekends, so that children can form habits and expectations; Close skin contact, such as holding a child's hand, gives you a sense of physical experience when reading, making this time more unforgettable.

Pay attention to how much information you read

When reading with children, parents should do their homework first. Read a picture book at least three times before telling it to children. Picture books first establish a story world in parents' minds. Parents' experience and understanding are passed on to their children through language, interaction and other behaviors. The richer and more vivid your understanding is, the easier it is to pass it on to children who listen to stories.

5. Look at the picture first, then at the text;

Picture books have two languages: words and pictures. Let me put it bluntly:

1) When you get the picture book for the first time, look at the picture first, not the text;

Observing the lines, shapes, patterns and compositions one by one, trying to understand the narrative story. Careful observation of the details of the pictures shows that the continuity and variability between the pictures constitute the plot, turning point, integrity and drama of the story. A good picture book can read the story as long as you look at the picture.

2) Pay attention to the intonation when reading the text, whether it is suitable for the story or image personality;

When reading aloud, we need to pay attention to the plot and structure of the story. What is important is whether the pictures and stories can be more vivid through the narrative of words. Only in this way can we achieve the effect of "text x picture"

3) Read the picture book as a whole

Don't ignore every picture, such as front cover, back cover, waist seal, ring lining, title page, etc. These are all indispensable parts of the story.

6. Pay attention to the child's rhythm and experience;

Reading picture books is different from watching cartoons. The rhythm of cartoon pictures is uncontrollable. Only by passively accepting and trying to keep up with the rhythm can children appreciate the fun. Reading picture books is different. Parents can let their children turn pages actively, so that they can selectively control the pace of reading. Pictures that you like or are full of interest can stay for some time, and the time to turn pages is also the time to cultivate your imagination.

7. Repeated reading is a good thing;

Reading picture books is not for learning knowledge, and repeated reading will inevitably enhance memory. It is not uncommon for illiterate children to write down their favorite stories. This process of reciting stories is also a process of cultivating language ability.

For preschool children, reading is not about quantity, but about experience. The experience of stories and the fun of learning to read are fundamental. If your child repeatedly asks to listen to stories, it means that the child understands the charm of stories and begins to find pleasure in reading. There's nothing better.
