The National Library of Japan has two origins. One is the House Library of the House of Lords, which was established in 1890 and belonged to the Imperial Parliament under the old constitution, and the other is the Imperial Library, which was established in 1872 and belongs to the Ministry of Education. Among them, Imperial Library has undergone changes from library (1872), Tokyo Library (1875), Tokyo House Library (1877), Tokyo Library (1880) to Imperial Library (1897). 1947 changed its name to National Library.
