Do historians fake things?
Historians don't forge things.

From the perspective of China's historiographers' compiling history, for the purpose of transmitting history, there was no opportunity and motivation to fabricate it at first. This change is due to the gradual emergence of the feudal unified dynasty and the change of historians' status. "Historian" is an industry that appeared very early in China, which is a very obvious feature that distinguishes Chinese civilization from other civilizations.

Traditionally, historians write history for posterity, not for recording the present. The historical books handed down are to provide reference for future generations, so that future generations can learn and be alert. Therefore, contemporary history books should be sealed up, and no one is allowed to read them except historians, otherwise they will be intimidated by power and lose the purpose of compiling history.

Historians' position:

During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, the status of historians was equivalent to that of the current director of the National Library. Moreover, in the Western Han Dynasty, the status of historians was the highest, and even the emperor could not easily move them above the prime minister. In the future, the status of historians is equivalent to that of the current National Weather Service. They record astronomical phenomena, geography, meteorology and history.

Later, in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the task of recording history was handed over to the Hanlin Academy to distinguish them from the Meteorological Bureau.
