From primary school to middle school to university, we are all studying a subject of mathematics. This introduced us to many mathematicians, such as Karl, Fermat, Pascal, Cauchy and so on. Counting these people, they all come from the same country-France.
Of course, as far as I know, the original origin is still related to Malan Mei Sen, an unknown mathematician in the monastery in the middle of17th century.
French mathematician Malan Mei Sen graduated from Jesuit school when he was young, and was a classmate of Descartes. Mei Sen is talented and approachable. He is not the most outstanding scholar, but he has established contact with scientists from all over Europe, and a group of scholars gathered around Mei Sen to discuss scientific issues in his apartment regularly. This salon of scientists gathered around Mei Sen, later known as Mei Sen College, was the academic exchange center in Europe at that time. Huygens, a later master of optics from a Dutch diplomatic family, was introduced by his diplomat father when he was young, studied under Descartes, and became a disciple of Mei Sen through correspondence.
Second, the enlightened monarch's strong support
France was under the rule of young Louis XIV. The monarch, who later died in the name of "Sun King", just ushered in his own personal administration and decided to establish an official academy of sciences to promote the development of French science. The college was later officially named the Royal Academy of Sciences in Paris, and Louis XIV provided a lot of sponsorship to avoid scientists' worries. His right-hand man, Colbert, the usually cautious finance minister, began to quickly gather a group of outstanding scholars with simple and rude money means.
Another foreign scientist, giovanni domenico cassini, is an outstanding astronomer from the University of Bologna. He has been in charge of the astronomy department of Bologna University for many years, and is famous for observing Jupiter and Mars. Now he is the director of the Paris Observatory.
Three. Advanced science and technology training system
1672, huygens, president of Paris academy of sciences, welcomed an ambitious young politician Leibniz.
Leibniz, a German, came to Paris this time to undertake a diplomatic mission, but he met Huygens and embarked on a scientific road.
Leibniz began to study mathematics systematically under the guidance of Huygens, and his mathematics skills were improved under the guidance of the master. After that, he visited famous teachers and visited London twice to exchange and study with the first-class scientists at that time.
