The college entrance examination is divided into AB volumes, which means that the test paper of the same exam is divided into two versions, A and B, to prevent candidates from copying. In the high school stage, the national unified examinations organized by the Ministry of Education, such as college entrance examination and senior high school entrance examination, usually use sub-AB volumes.
In the exam divided into A and B, the difficulty of A and B is basically the same, but the order or content of the questions may be different. For example, the first math problem in volume A is algebra, and the first math problem in volume B is geometry. Doing so can prevent candidates from stealing answers from each other, thus ensuring the fairness and objectivity of the exam and helping to evaluate the true ability level of candidates.
In the college entrance examination, there is another purpose of dividing AB papers, which is to balance the difficulty of exams in different regions and schools. Because the order and content of test questions in Volume A and Volume B are slightly different, their difficulty may also be slightly different. Therefore, in the statistics and ranking of college entrance examination results, the Ministry of Education will properly convert and weight the scores of Volume A and Volume B, so as to eliminate the possible differences in test difficulty and make candidates from different regions and schools comparable.
In a word, dividing the exam into AB volumes is a measure to ensure fairness and objectivity. It can effectively avoid plagiarism among candidates, balance the difficulty of the exam and ensure the comparability of the exam results.
