This department has two main contents:
1. Mathematics: generally refers to pure mathematics, pure mathematics.
2. Applied mathematics: as the name implies, for example, mathematical modeling, analyzing specific problems such as building mechanics, physics, environment, ecology, economy and finance. For example, using the results of pure mathematics to improve computer algorithms.
Generally, freshmen and sophomores study basic courses and theoretical parts, and juniors and seniors can choose some different courses when they start professional courses, which are partial to theory or application.

I also graduated from the Department of Mathematics. Actually, it depends on your interest. Mathematics is the foundation of all disciplines, including physics. And physics is also the basis of many applications. It will be easy to transfer to finance, economics or computers.
As for me, I prefer pure mathematics, especially combinatorics and graph theory. Anyway, I had a good time learning.
