Democritus dabbled in mathematics, astronomy, geology, physics, biology and medicine, and proposed volume calculation methods such as cones, pyramids and spheres. He also made achievements in logic, ethics, psychology, politics and law, so Marx and Engels praised him as the "first encyclopedic scholar" in ancient Greece.
