Repairing cars taught me a philosophy of life.
I am an automobile maintenance technician. Seven years of experience in car maintenance has taught me a lot about life. Sharing them with you now is also a review and reflection in my seven years of work and life.

Pursuit of truth

Everyone thinks about a problem. What is the most important thing when driving? I think the first priority is driving safety. So what is the most direct factor that will lead to safety hazards when the car is driving on the road? If the objective factors such as road conditions and driver's driving skills are excluded, it should be the safety of vehicle condition that determines driving safety. I will use the thinking mode of maintenance technician to analyze the main components that determine the driving safety of the vehicle, such as wheels and tires, braking system, power steering system, power system and driver's auxiliary safety system.

One day on 20 13, I went to work to repair a faulty car, Mercedes-Benz GLK300. Part of the left front wheel was damaged, which caused the tire pressure to drop instantly. Customer complaint: The car is equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system. Why didn't the tire pressure change instrument system give the driver an alarm in time? Because the car didn't have a tire pressure alarm, the customer drove for about 500 meters before discovering that something was wrong. So the parking inspection found that the left front wheel was completely flat and abnormally worn. It can be seen that the customer was still a little scared of the sudden emergency, and the customer asked the car dealer to compensate the left front wheel. I studied the whole process of failure carefully. First of all, I explained the working principle of the automobile tire pressure monitoring system to the customer. The tire pressure monitoring system and mileage monitoring system running in unit time recognize that the driving perimeters of four tires have changed or the driving perimeters of four wheels are inconsistent with each other. The computer of the tire pressure monitoring system will give the tire pressure alarm signal to remind the driver through the algorithm, so the tire pressure of the car will be released instantly due to local damage, and the system will give an alarm before it can respond. Secondly, I tried to test whether the tire pressure monitoring system of the car works normally with the customer. At first, we set the four-wheel tire as the standard tire pressure, deflate the left front wheel every kilometer, and give an alarm when driving for four kilometers, which shows that the tire pressure monitoring system works normally. At this time, the customer no longer asks for tire compensation, and the judgment made by the customer is very acceptable.

Conclusion: The above cases can't prove how I persuaded my customers, but I want to look at the problem from another angle. For anything, we should pursue the truth, recognize the essence of things, make friends with the truth, and help us make correct decisions and codes of conduct. This is a very important method. Ray Dalio, the founder of Qiaoshui Capital, famously said: In order to pursue the truth, you can pay the price of humiliation.

Deliberate practice

Have you heard of the 10,000-hour theory? Do you really understand the 10,000-hour theory? The 10,000-hour theory has appeared frequently in recent years, and I am embarrassed to say 10,000-hour theory.

I remember when I first entered the auto repair industry, the workshop director took me to the engine repair room of the workshop and pointed to the master who was repairing the engine and said, you follow him from now on, and he is your master. I nodded quickly. My master looked at me and asked with a smile, have you done it before? I said: I learned at school that I could do some practical training, and the master asked me what I could do. Like endorsement, I said: I can do four-wheel alignment and disassemble the engine transmission independently ... I feel that I can do anything (I don't know where I got the courage now, maybe I am ignorant! At the same time, I saw a lot of engine parts on the operating platform, and I was awed. I think it's great. You see, there are dozens and hundreds of engine parts. Take all the engine parts apart and then assemble each part without any problems. I can still remember the uneasy mood at that time and answer what the master said. Actually nothing is white.

I shivered with the master, and he continued to repair the engine. I said, let me help you. A master knows my level when he sees the technology-a novice. So the master took me to a car. He removed the rim himself and put it on. The master asked me to watch him do the whole process. You took off the rim I just took off and put it on. It took me a lot of effort to finish it. At the same time, the master has been observing and commenting by my side. First xxx, then xxx, then xxx, what's wrong with the posture, what's wrong with it, what to do if it's wrong. The project of disassembling the steel ring was broken down into concrete and operable actions by him, and I followed suit. The master actually gave me continuous feedback on the specific actions. Finally, the master asked me to practice repeatedly according to his method, and soon I learned the skill of disassembling the steel ring.

Summary: To answer the above question, the 10,000-hour theory without deliberate practice is actually a paradox! The so-called 10,000-hour theory: that is to say, any skill, as long as it takes 10,000 hours, will become a master in this field; The so-called deliberate practice: when you deliberately practice a skill, you can get external and internal feedback in time, correct your actions and state in time, and repeat the whole process constantly. My master taught me that the process of dismantling steel rings is a deliberate exercise with good intentions! The advanced repair of cars is actually the result of deliberate practice. So will a taxi driver become a racing driver after driving for 10 thousand hours? Will Foxconn assembly workers become engineers in this industry after working for 10 thousand hours? The answer is obviously not, because they accumulate time without deliberate practice, so deliberate practice plus 10 thousand hours of theory equals the professional level of skills.

combine/join forces (with sb)

During World War II, American military strategists reformed the staffing of the US Army. For example, the traditional sniper team is composed of snipers and observers, so the standard configuration after reform is composed of snipers, observers and background traders. When the sniper team received the task, the three roles performed their duties accurately. Backstage traders design sniper methods, observers know the surrounding environment, and snipers shoot accurately. It is said that even ammunition is calculated for different targets, so that the reformed army has better combat effectiveness.

The maintenance team that I am repairing cars is going to apply this method to the construction work. Team members are engaged in business, rescue, production management, technology, logistics support, quality inspection and specific construction. Many roles overlap and cooperate with each other, which greatly improves the work efficiency and quality. The so-called sparrow is small and complete!

Summary: Now teamwork has gradually evolved from the traditional tree structure to the network structure, and every point in the network structure will play its due role and be highly specialized. This is the result of new teamwork. Isn't this the Internet thinking we've been talking about?

I am a repairman who is not mediocre!
