He tirelessly engaged in a large number of teaching activities and always adhered to the unity of teaching and scientific research. Carefully train the younger generation of mathematicians. He teaches more than ten courses, such as mathematical analysis, analytic geometry, advanced algebra, differential equations, complex variable functions, real variable functions, integral equations, variational methods, singular integral equations, and generalized analytic function theory. He has also instructed many senior students in the Department of Mathematics. And recruit graduate students. All the students he has taught say that Mr. Chen speaks very well. In Chen's teaching career of more than half a century, peaches and plums are everywhere and there are many talented students. 1960 In the early spring, the teaching order of Fudan University has recovered from the Great Leap Forward and gradually moved towards normalization. The Department of Mathematics has carried out the teaching reform centered on the modernization of teaching content, and has made remarkable achievements in both teaching and scientific research, and compiled a set of advanced mathematics and mechanics textbooks. He has written a lot of important research papers in theory and application. Textbooks and essays have been published by Shanghai Science and Technology Publishing House. 1964 On behalf of the CPC Central Committee, a leading comrade of the Central Committee made important instructions on the construction of teaching materials in colleges and universities and put forward many directional opinions. The Higher Education Press appointed the Department of Mathematics of Fudan University to be responsible for compiling the Concise Course of Mathematical Analysis, and Chen was in charge. He led two young teachers to do the work. The first volume was printed in 1966, but with the arrival of the Cultural Revolution, the hard work of compiling it was in vain.
The smashing of the Gang of Four has brought new vitality and hope to the endangered cause of higher education. 1977, the National Conference on Science Mathematics Textbooks decided that the Mathematics Department of Fudan University should compile a set of mathematics analysis textbooks, and Chen once again organized young and middle-aged teachers to rewrite them on the existing basis. Considering the bad influence of the ten-year turmoil on the front of higher education, in order to meet the different requirements of colleges and universities and the different levels of students, great changes have been made in the chapter arrangement and content organization. The book was published by People's Education Publishing House 1979. 1983 revision, Mathematical Analysis (second edition) published by Higher Education Press. The textbook has been adopted by many universities of science and engineering and related majors in normal universities, and has been widely praised. This book has won the praise of the people of China.
Theory and application of integral equation
Chen's doctoral thesis in France is a systematic work on the theory of integral equations. At that time, the theory of integral equation was an important research topic, and many famous scholars also devoted themselves to the research of this topic. His doctoral thesis focuses on the order of Fredholm determinant and the expansion of decomposition kernel. After returning home, he did some further research. He is one of the ancestors who studied the theory of integral equation in China.
Chen studied the advanced science of the Soviet Union with an open mind, and introduced the research results of the Soviet Union on integral equations and singular integral equations to China. He taught himself Russian, translated and published Advanced Mathematics Course (including Integral Equation and Variational Method) and Integral Equation and Its Application in four volumes, and organized students to translate and publish Multidimensional Singular Integral Equation and Integral Equation, which played a very good role in the introduction of Soviet scholars' monographs into China.
1987, the monograph "Theory of Integral Equation and Its Application" written by him and his students was published by Shanghai Science and Technology Publishing House. This is China's first monograph on the theory of integral equations. The book sold out as soon as it was published. Chen personally wrote some chapters of the book and carefully reviewed the whole manuscript. This book contains not only the basic theory of integral equations, but also some latest achievements. There are both the achievements of foreign scholars and the author's own research experience. Many universities of science and engineering and normal universities have adopted this book as a teaching material for senior students and graduate students, which has been well received. Under his care and guidance, his student monograph "Singular Integral Equation Theory and Its Application" has also been published.
During the ten-year catastrophe, despite the difficult situation, Chen and his students kept as much information as possible about their scientific research, believing that they would continue their research work in this field one day. The year after the downfall of the Gang of Four, the "political problems" of Chen, who was over 70 years old, had not been rehabilitated. However, he took the initiative to lead students to contact and undertake the practical application of integral equation in a scientific research project carried out by a certain army, and made a complete exposition from theoretical analysis to numerical calculation scheme. This practical application research was finally completed in 0978, which was affirmed and praised by relevant departments.
Generalized analytic function theory and boundary value
Chen always learns foreign advanced science with an open mind. As soon as he found good literature and meaningful subject direction, he immediately introduced it to students, made a report in the teacher's discussion class, and conducted further research. Since 2008+0959, students have been instructed to study the research results of "Georgian School" founded by famous Soviet scholars on analytic functions, generalized analytic functions, solutions of boundary value problems and their applications in elasticity and shell theory, and students have been organized to translate and publish the monograph "New Solutions to Elliptic Equations" by Soviet scholars (five years earlier than the American translation of this book). At the same time, he began to study the properties of generalized analytic functions, some boundary value problems and some generalized solutions by using integral equation theory. Chen and his students co-authored the academic paper "Riemann-Hassman Boundary Value Problem for First Order Elliptic Equations and the Properties and Applications of Integral Operator T (n) F", the former is the first paper in China to study the theory of boundary value problem with displacement for generalized analytic functions. The operator introduced by the latter plays an important role in the study of boundary value problems of second-order and higher-order elliptic equations, and is an important generalization of generalized analytic function theory. Under the guidance of Mr. Chen, his students have done a lot of systematic research on solving various important linear and nonlinear boundary value problems of first-order, second-order and higher-order linear, quasi-linear and nonlinear elliptic equations, and achieved excellent results. He also wrote and published the monograph Elliptic Equation and Boundary Value Problems. Under their influence, many units and scholars are engaged in in in-depth and extensive research in this field and have achieved fruitful results. Chen is the founder of studying the theory of first-order elliptic equations and boundary value problems in China.
Over seventy years old, frail and sickly, devoted to learning advanced western science. In the teacher's discussion class, he personally introduced the important work of American scholars in functional theoretical methods of partial differential equations, and organized the translation of a masterpiece, Functional Theoretical Methods of Partial Differential Equations, which was published by Higher Education Press, 1984.
1978 considering the influence of ten years' turmoil, the domestic research forces on boundary value problems of integral equations and partial differential equations need to be condensed urgently, so as to strengthen academic exchanges, learn from each other's strong points, promote each other and improve together, and catch up with the international advanced level as soon as possible. So, taking the opportunity of holding a national academic conference in Shanghai, he went to the venue and found some fellow scholars. Negotiate and propose to hold a national academic conference on integral equations and boundary value problems, organize teams and carry out research. This initiative has been strongly supported by chinese mathematical society. This national academic conference has been held for six times since 1979, resulting in a collection of conference papers, which has been well reflected at home and abroad. The sixth session was also expanded into an international academic conference, attended by famous scholars and professors from the United States, the Soviet Union, Germany and Poland.
Chen is cheerful and open-minded, with a wide range of hobbies: writing poems, practicing calligraphy, listening to Beijing opera and reading historical novels.
Chen was seriously ill in his later years, and still cared about the teaching, scientific research and postgraduate training of the Department of Mathematics of Fudan University. He was "critically ill" many times, but he survived with tenacious will and defeated death again and again. After all, the laws of nature are irresistible. It was less than half a year after he celebrated his 60th and 85th birthday as a teacher in the Mathematics Department of Fudan University.1989+noon on June 9th, 65438.
