Extended data:

As early as 2003, Professor Feng Rui of Chinese Academy of Sciences restarted the exploration and demonstration of "Zhang Heng Seismograph". It is based on the record of the word 196 found in Zhang Hengchuan of the Later Han Dynasty. Later, relevant records were found in seven ancient books, such as Continued Han Dynasty and Records of the Later Han Dynasty. Finally, it was expanded from the word 196 to 238 words. Perhaps Feng Ruifu originally proposed a seismograph model that is more scientific, logical and historical, but it is just a family statement.

Compared with predecessors, today's scientific and technological level has been greatly improved. But this does not mean that we can understand our predecessors and their inventions. Science is a process of continuous development, and sometimes even a process of constant error correction. So is Zhang Heng's seismograph. No one is sure that the restored seismograph model must be the one made by Zhang Heng. Feng Rui himself said that this is just "our understanding of Zhang Heng in the current era".
