The naval battle of Midway Island was a battle for the capture of Midway Island and the western islands of Aleutian Islands by the Japanese fleet during the Pacific War of World War II from June 3 to 6, 1942.
Since 194 1 February 7, the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, and the Pacific War started. Then in more than three months, it occupied wake island and Marshall Islands in the east, Malay Peninsula and andaman and nicobar islands in the west and Bismarck Islands in the south, and almost completely controlled the whole western Pacific.
In these months, every time the Japanese army won a victory, Tokyo citizens who were incited by war fanaticism lined up and waved paper sun flags and rushed to the palace to hold a celebration meeting.
However, behind all this excitement, one person always seems to have a lot on his mind.
This man is General Isoroku Yamamoto, Commander of the Joint Fleet of the Japanese Navy.
After Japan's successful attack on Pearl Harbor.
He once calmly and soberly pointed out: We have just awakened a giant, and we must finish the unfinished business of attacking Pearl Harbor before the giant gets up and completely destroy the US Pacific Fleet.
Therefore, Yamamoto is very much in favor of the plan of attacking Midway Island put forward by Major General Yuyuan, Chief of Staff of the Joint Fleet.
It is believed that if the island can be occupied, it can be used as a forward base for Japanese air patrols to intimidate Hawaii, and it can also lure out the American fleet and annihilate it in the decisive battle.
