Pingtan (formerly Fuqing County, Fuzhou Prefecture) is called "Lan" for short, commonly known as Haitan, and is a prefecture-level administrative region directly under the jurisdiction of Fujian Province. Pingtan County and Pingtan Comprehensive Experimental Zone implement the management system of "administrative and district integration" (administrative and experimental zones).

Located in the east of Fujian Province, across the Taiwan Province Strait from Taiwan Province Province, it is the closest place to Taiwan Province Island in Chinese mainland, and consists of 126 islands, mainly Haitan Island, which is also a famous fishing base.
