Part two: the opening report of image research in the English translation of Tang poetry.
Introduction: China is a country of poetry and a bright pearl in the treasure house of world culture. The Tang Dynasty was a period of political enlightenment, economic prosperity and cultural prosperity in the history of China, during which the creation of China's classical poems (metrical poems) reached its peak. Tang poetry is beautiful in language, fluent in writing and meaningful.
Page 10
Elegant environment, sincere feelings and open and profound thoughts are the essence of Chinese national literature and a wonderful flower in the world garden. Escumak, chairman of the Nobel Prize in Literature Committee, praised the unique artistic beauty of China's literature and said, "What works in the world can be compared with China's Tang poems and Dream of Red Mansions?" As a kind of treasure, Tang poetry has a strong humanistic atmosphere and artistic beauty. The image of poetry is an important embodiment of the beauty of poetry, and the translation of image is directly related to the transmission of the beauty of the original poem. From the aesthetic point of view, this paper focuses on the definition and aesthetic characteristics of "image" in poetry, and explains the significance of poetry.
Page 1 1
Image is a poetic expression of human existence with the help of "Fu Bi". The heterogeneity and isomorphism of human nature and things make the translation of poetic images possible. Taking the English translation of Tang poetry as an example, this paper analyzes and summarizes that the key to the translation of poetic images lies in the understanding of the original poetic images and the artistic conception behind the images. In practice, images should be interpreted or adjusted in the context of translation. These strategies are of great guiding significance to poetry translation, and the translation process belongs to the process of cultural reproduction, so cultural background should be considered to achieve the unity of form, beauty and meaning.

Purpose and significance
With the global Chinese fever heating up and the constant settlement of Confucius Institutes around the world, foreigners are becoming more and more interested in China culture.
As the epitome of China culture, Tang poetry integrates history, culture, economy and connotation, and imagery is an important medium to convey these connotations. "Image" is an important concept in China's ancient literary theory, which is embodied in China's ancient poetry creation. William Willi, a British sinologist, believes that image is the soul of poetry.
Page 13
Because the accumulation of images reflects the rich cultural background of China. Hu Yinglin, a famous scholar in ancient China, also said: "The beauty of ancient poetry lies in seeking images". The unity of meaning and image and the blending of emotion and scenery are the aesthetic pursuits of China's ancient poems, which are perfectly expressed in Tang poetry. In a sense, translating poetry is translating images, and the process of translating a Tang poem into English is the process of reconstructing and reproducing poetic images in English. It is undoubtedly a meaningful topic to study the English translation of Tang poetry from the perspective of image translation. This thesis takes the English translation of Tang poetry as the research object, and discusses the connotation and evolution of "image" in Chinese and western cultures and poetry translation.
Page 14
This paper selects representative translators to conduct case studies, and then puts forward the principles and strategies of poetry image translation. At the same time, through the different versions of the same Tang poetry, this paper discusses the matters needing attention in poetry translation, and thus preliminarily obtains the relevant strategies and skills in image translation of Tang poetry.

Research status at home and abroad
There are many excellent translators in modern China, such as Yan Fu, Fu Lei, Liang Qichao, etc. The translation of Tang poetry into English is a tireless work of translators. The outstanding representatives of Tang poetry translators in contemporary China are
Page 15
Xu Yuanchong, Liu Zuwei, Sun Qiangxin, Gao. Taking Xu Yuanchong's emphasis on images in Tang poetry as an example, he said: "Theory comes from practice and needs to be tested by practice. This is the philosophical basis of my proposal to establish China School's literary translation theory. On the basis of inheriting predecessors' theories, he developed his life-long translation experience and put forward his own translation theory "optimization theory", which was summed up in four words: "Beautify the art and create excellence like a competition" and published in The Art of Translation (1984), Literary Translation Theory (1998) and Literary Translation Theory.
Page 16
Spiritual similarity, seeking truth and beauty, translation and creation, "translation cavity" and "four-character idioms", cultural differences between China and the West, and competition between the two cultures can be summarized into the following three theories: "three beauties" (beauty in meaning, beauty in sound and beauty in form) are the noumenon of translated poems. Of the three beauties, the beauty of meaning is the most important, followed by the beauty of sound, and finally the beauty of form. In other words, translation is the creation of beauty, so the form is better than the spirit, and we should strive to achieve the three beauties on the premise of conveying the beauty of the original meaning. The theory of "three transformations" (deep, flat and shallow) is the methodology of poetry translation. By adding words, changing words and subtracting words respectively,
Page 17
Try to achieve spiritual realm through free translation. The theory of "three" (knowledge, goodness and joy) is the teleology of poetry translation. Knowing is to make people understand, which is the basic requirement of translation; Then ask for good, which can make people like it; The highest state is pleasure, which can make people happy.
At the same time, Tang poetry has also received attention and enthusiasm abroad. Western scholars' translation of China's classical poems (mainly Tang poems) began with Herbert Le's English Version of China's Poems from 65438 to 0898. In the late 1920s or 1929, Witt Bain (Witter
Page 18
Bynner) published the English version of Collected Works of China People in new york (the earliest English version of 300 Tang Poems in the United States); Ezra pound (1885- 1972), an American poet, translated many Tang poems, such as Autumn Wind by Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty and Long March by Li Bai. 1940, Three Hundred Selected Poems of Tang Poetry by Som Ginaser was published in London, 1944, and the supplementary edition of the book was published. Arthur waley (1889- 1969), an outstanding American female translator, translated and published The Book of Songs. At the same time, she translated at least 170 poems, including Tang poems.
Page 19
China's classical poems. 197 1 year, new york published the English version of Du Fu by A.R. Davies; 1973, Yale University published Arthur Wright's Views on Tang. From 65438 to 0987, the Hong Kong Commercial Press published 39 English versions of Tang poems by Xu Yuanchong, Wu Juntao and other translators (which occupied a certain share in the American poetry translation and publishing market and was welcomed by Chinese and American academic circles). Take Pound and Lowell for example. Their Imagist representative poet Pound came from ancient China.
Page 20
The theory of "artistic conception" in classical poetry and Japanese haiku has made outstanding contributions to the mutual reference of eastern and western poetry. After Pound withdrew from Imagism, Lowell continued to lead the activities of Imagism, and put forward six principles, namely, language should be popular and accurate, new rhythms should be created, themes should be completely free, poems should be written with images, and expressions should be concrete and concise.
Concentrate. Later, Lowell added the principle of "be subtle, not straightforward". They tried to use vivid images and short and pithy "Chinese-style" poetry style to oppose1the stale English poetry style in the late 9th century, which has positive significance, but the key point is to chase after it.

Pursuing the form and skills of poetry often ignores the social significance and ideological value of the works. Research route:
