To be honest, I was a little disappointed when I first saw the new MacBook Pro. In particular, I have experienced the old MacBook Pro 16 many times before, and I feel that the volume and weight are still acceptable, so I originally planned to buy the 16 inch version directly this time. However, after looking at the real thing, I found that the new 16 inch was once again a circle bigger, slightly thicker physically, and the visual experience in design was nearly doubled. . . The CPU specifications of M 1Pro Full Blood Edition and M 1Max are exactly the same, including 8 functional cores and 2 small functional cores. In fact, it can be seen from the results of M 1 that the four energy efficiency cores can also provide good multithreading performance, and the energy efficiency cores will participate in system scheduling more frequently. But in M 1Pro/Max, Apple does not use more energy-saving cores to assist multi-threaded applications, but uses more performance cores to ensure the performance of each single thread. On the contrary, the energy-efficient core is reduced to two cores, which are mainly responsible for light threads and low-power work, such as background. This is also Apple's different design ideas for professional and entry-level devices.
The author's MBP 14 is a bloody version of 10 core CPU 16 core GPU. From R23, the performance of CPU is almost the level of I7- 1 1800H (even higher than that of GB5) and better than that of 12 generation cores. This performance is very powerful, and it can be safely used for a long time in this era of "excess performance".
At the same time, it must be noted that the Core I7 under comparison here is a H45 standard voltage I7 mobile processor with a nominal H45, but the actual operation takes 80W-90W. Generally speaking, MPRO/MAX compares the CPU of the game notebook used by "martial arts people" at this time.
The CPU power consumption of M 1Pro/Max is about 28W, which is the CPU power consumption of standard high-performance thin notebook. Therefore, how to compare it with the windows high-performance thin notebook whose size is similar to MBP? Because of the limited size, it is difficult to release the CPU performance above 80W. As a thin notebook, when the power consumption is strictly limited to 35W-45W, its performance cannot be compared with M 1Pro/Max.
In fact, a key specification for evaluating CPU performance is the performance of memory. Now it is time to upgrade DDR4 memory to DDR5 memory, so many users know that memory overclocking has a great impact on system performance. But in fact, DDR5 is still not qualified to be compared with M 1Pro/Max, because these two processors have memory performance of 200G/S and 400G/S respectively, and the advantages brought by UMA architecture-the closer the memory is to the CPU, the stronger the performance.

The result of SSD is the top PCIE4.0 SSD at present. The version of 1T I use can read and write at 6700M/6000M, which is almost catching up with the previous DDR3 single channel memory. . .
So how to evaluate the CPU performance of M 1Pro/Max? In some common tests, it can achieve the performance of advanced X86 processors of 60W-90W, and in other tests with higher memory performance, it can be significantly higher than the mainstream high-end processors of X86 desktop platforms. Therefore, it is actually a bit difficult to evaluate the performance of M 1Pro/Max. It can be said that at least in the worst case (such as R23), the performance level of 1 1800H can be achieved, while in the scenarios that require memory performance, it is desperate (in fact, there are many such scenarios).
So the main purpose of Apple's design is to cater to content creators. The micro-architecture features of M 1 Pro/Max will have great advantages in creative design productivity such as video editing, audio mastering, and code compilation (all fields with strong performance requirements such as memory and io), and may far exceed any other platform and system.
On the GPU, the metal score of GB5 exceeded 40,000 points. For comparison, the score of iPhone 13pro Max is 14000, M 1 2 1000 and M 1Max is 68000.
The score of 3D Mark Wild Extreme is 10353, the score of iPhone 13pro Max is 2800-3000, the GPU temperature is about 90 degrees, the fan is 2500 revolutions, and the power consumption of the whole machine is 45W.
But without the reference of X86 platform, it is still difficult to compare the GPU performance of M 1Pro. There are many tests on the performance of M 1Max. The performance of GFX is similar to that of 3080 mobile version, and the GPU of M 1Pro is close to that of 3060 (the server of GFX can't be connected, so it can't be displayed. Then the actual game is rarely optimized because of its performance adaptation, and fewer games are also adapted to the ARM architecture, but it is difficult to give full play to its performance advantages. In particular, UMA architecture can also make video memory use 10G, which also makes a graphics card with 4G video memory a bit subtle. So how to evaluate the GPU of M 1Pro/Max? Just watching the game, it seems a very appropriate evaluation that a clever woman can't cook without rice. Generally speaking, this GPU still has a superior energy consumption ratio. Some friends may think that no game is playing =GPU is useless, but in fact, Apple has been committed to expanding the role of GPU in the system for the past two decades. MacOS system requires very high performance of GPU. In the past, Intel's top-end Iris iGPU was almost taken over by the Mac.
