In September 2006, the school was renamed as Changjiang Normal University from Fuling Normal University.

Located in Fuling District, Chongqing, Yangtze Normal University is the only undergraduate institution on the strategic fulcrum of "one circle and two wings" in Chongqing. There are 12 experimental teaching centers, 4 municipal experimental teaching demonstration centers and 290 off-campus practice teaching bases.
