Music and movies-my two hobbies-what kind of works will be produced if they are matched together? What kind of fun did it bring me? There are two answers: I like movies about musicians; I especially like listening to movies and music. The former is almost dead at present, while the latter is thriving.
It is said that the leader of a certain country likes three American movies best-Gone with the Wind, Dawn on the Jade Embankment and Remembering Song. Two of these three films are musicals. Cui Di's Dawn in the Spring, formerly known as Waltz, is a biographical film of Strauss, the king of waltz. There are many unforgettable scenes in the film, all of which are related to music, especially the scene where the composer and soprano ride through the Vienna forest in a carriage, which is surprisingly romantic and deeply loved by the audience (the film critics scoff at it). Remember Song is a biographical film about the pianist Flederick Van Sizek Chopin. I have relived my old dreams recently (watching DVD version), and I am not as infatuated as before. On the other hand, Franz Liszt's other biopic (starring Dick Bogart) is even better, with the famous pianist Jorge Bolet playing behind the scenes. He recorded Liszt's works before his death and is still the first choice. His performance and recording are first-class.
