Changzhi Library was founded in June 1946 65438+ 10/8, and its predecessor was "Public Changzhi Library in Taihang District".

After entering the 2 1 century, in order to meet the needs of economic construction and social development in Changzhi City, Changzhi Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government built a modern library building at Taihang West Street 178, a newly requisitioned land 18 mu. It has become a modern public library with the largest collection of books, the largest construction area, the latest modern equipment and the most complete service functions in ten other cities in Shanxi Province (except Taiyuan).

According to the Records of Changzhi City published by 1995, the predecessor of Changzhi Library can be traced back to 18 (1929) in the Republic of China. People of insight in Changzhi County invested 1000 silver dollar to build a library called "Blessing Land" in the backyard of Shengquan Temple in Lianhuachi. After opening, it was celebrated and sponsored by the masses and people from all walks of life. In 22 years, Cheng dedicated thousands of original books from Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties to the library. After the Japanese army occupied Changzhi in 28 years of the Republic of China, books were robbed and libraries were destroyed.

Changzhi, as one of the political, economic and cultural centers of Shanxi, Hebei, Shandong and Henan, formally established the Taihang Public Changzhi Library in June +654381October+August, 5438, which was one of the few 55 public libraries in China before the founding of the People's Republic of China. The main sources of fund-raising are: donations from anti-Japanese military and political colleges; Gifts from neighboring counties; The fruits of the land reform struggle (the landlord's book collection); Foreign exchange. At that time, it had more than 75,000 books, which was the most abundant library in the liberated areas of Shanxi, Hebei, Shandong and Henan, and was quite famous at that time. From Harbin, Heilongjiang to the Soviet Union, the birthplace of the October Revolution, and from Hong Kong, Malaysia to Yangon, each other is willing to establish exchange relations with libraries in Taihang area.

On the eve of national liberation, some of Changzhi Museum's books were moved to Handan, Hebei Province, and some of them were renamed as "Public Reading Room", and the museum site was still located in the "Blessing Land" library building in the urban lotus pond.

1954, "Public Reading Room" was renamed "Changzhi People's Library".

1957, the former site was moved to No.78 Hero Street and changed to "Changzhi People's Library".

1970 during the institutional reform, libraries, cultural centers, museums, workers' cultural palaces and provincial cultural relics working groups were merged into "Changzhi Cultural Workstation".

From 65438 to 0972, the municipal government approved the restoration of the organizational system of Changzhi Library. 1978 The museum was expanded in the original site (No.78 Hero Street), covering an area of 1890 square meters (about 2.6 mu). There are three courtyards, a new two-story building of stacks and offices in the backyard, and an original bungalow with a total construction area of 920 square meters. The library has added three reading rooms for social science, teenagers and science and technology, expanded the borrowing position, made the borrowing area reach 200 square meters, and increased the number of reading seats to 150. It subscribes to more than 700 kinds of newspapers and periodicals every year, with a total area of 400 square meters, and is divided into circulation libraries, basic libraries, ancient books libraries and databases. The library was a well-known library in Shanxi province at that time, with trees and flowers, and it was pleasant to read.

In 2005, the new building was completed and opened to the public, with a total construction area of 1 000 square meters and a total investment of 35,265,500 yuan. The building is divided into reader reading area, self-study area, rest area, research area, work area and training area. Party organizations set up party branches, league branches, trade unions, women's federations and family planning offices. The business organization temporarily set up the editing department, newspaper department, lending department, children's department, special collection department, automation department, ancient books department, counseling department and * * * enjoyment project sub-center as "eight departments and one center". The administrative organization has offices, property centers, security offices and other functional departments.
