Dalian Jiaotong University is the only institution of higher learning in Northeast China that features rail transit. 1956, the school was founded in response to the development needs of China's railway locomotive and rolling stock industry. At that time, it was Dalian Locomotive and Rolling Stock Manufacturing School. 1958 was upgraded to Dalian Railway Institute, formerly managed by the Ministry of Railways.
