The United States is the second largest country in the Americas, and its territory includes the mainland of the United States, Alaska in the northwest of North America and the Hawaiian Islands in the central Pacific Ocean.

It covers an area of 93726 10/0 square kilometers (including 9158,960 square kilometers of land and about 200,000 square kilometers of inland waters). If the U.S. sovereign part of the Great Lakes is included, the coastal waters such as estuaries, harbors and inland seas are about170,000 square kilometers, with an area of 9.63 million square kilometers.

The topography of the United States is varied, with high terrain in the west and low terrain in the east. There are coastal plains on the east coast, which are wide in the south and narrow in the north, extending to New Jersey and Long Island, and there are also some glacial sedimentary plains.
