Foreword:
First of all, I have never been to a domestic library. Books in China are too cheap. I prefer to buy books.
Therefore, my praise of American libraries in this article does not mean that the moon in any foreign country is rounder than that in China. I also heard that libraries in China are also very good now, so I must go back to China to have a look.
Text:
I have always heard that European and American national libraries are rich in resources, so people seldom buy books and love to borrow them. So before coming to America, I urged my husband who went first to get a card in the small town library where he lived. It is free to apply for a card, as long as he has a certificate.
This should be our chain public library in Montgomery County. (Below the American state is the county, and below the county is the city)
I like their slogan: where the country studies (that's where people study). )
I googled the libraries near my home, but I didn't expect so many libraries. It is estimated that there are all kinds of people. Maybe there is a private library. I went to the second one, downtown.
The library is open from 9 am to 9 pm. It's so sweet to have such a long business hour. Parents can take their children to borrow books and read after work.
You don't need any certificates and security checks to get in and out of the library, that is to say, anyone can swagger in and enjoy all the resources inside, but you can't lend them out.
What resources does the library have?
All kinds of books, DVDs, CDs, sofas, tables and chairs, wifi, computers, children's computers and some toys.
This is a computer in the children's area. You can only check the bibliography on the intranet. The bibliography can also be found on the official website in the library. You can check the books you want to borrow and renew them at home.
The rule of renewal is that you can renew it for 20 days at a time, up to three times, and how many books or disks can you borrow on a card at most. A mother here told me that older children can't tell them, and they can borrow 100 at most, otherwise they may not be able to move back.
The area where Xiaozao is standing now is the children's area, which is rich in reading resources. There are thousands of books and hundreds of CDs, not only in English, but also in Spanish, French and Chinese.
The picture below shows a Chinese bookshelf.
The picture below shows a French bookshelf.
There are many complete sets of books suitable for older children. If only I had such rich reading resources when I was a child!
This is the CD area. The bookshelves in the children's area are not high, which is convenient for children to read.
There is also a small ladder stool for children to climb up and get books.
The children's area is equipped with small tables and chairs, and adults can sit down.
There is a circular area for younger children, from crawling to children who can't read independently at the age of two or three.
The blue circle in the middle is a children's sofa, and the green circle outside is an adult sofa, where you can hold your baby and study. This area is full of young picture books, and there are also some cars and letter magnets. I think it is very intimate, because children's attention is limited and they can stay longer through reading and playing.
Occasionally, there will be noisy babies in the younger age area, and adults will whisper. If they cry, they will carry them out so as not to affect everyone.
It is not easy for me to post a photo of my parents and take a selfie.
There are all kinds of animals on the bookshelf, which adds a lot of childlike interest. I think it is also convenient for children to remember the location of the bookshelf.
There are many details in the library that move me. This is a table in the children's section, which is covered with pictures of various animals. Even if a book is not borrowed, the child is willing to put it on the table to read.
For example, there is a wide chair in the picture below. As we all know, there are many fat people in the United States, and there are many kinds of chairs in the library, big and small, to meet the needs of different people as much as possible.
The picture below shows bundles of books packed according to different themes. I'm worried that some people will have no time to choose books, so I chose some good books and tied them up and put them on the theme label at the gate of the library, so that people can borrow them directly and quickly in batches. This kind of recommendation is for adults and children, which makes me feel really sad that the library makes everyone read more books.
In the picture above, there are some themes about good night, some stories about bears, some stories about dogs and some stories about farms.
Some books on the shelf are labeled with yellow. This sign shows that the yellow label is for children who just can read independently. These books have fewer pictures than picture books, simple words and short stories, which are about the level of grade two in kindergarten.
There are also two children's computers in the children's area. Both keyboard and touch screen are available. Asus brand.
There are all kinds of educational games, children's songs, cartoons and jujube's favorite in the computer. You have to punch in here every time you come, or you can hang up the ophthalmology department like the picture above.
I finally got a computer, but unfortunately my hands are short and I seldom poke the screen.
The library will hold various activities on a regular basis, such as telling stories, drawing pictures and doing handicrafts. , and the schedule will be released in official website. What should be posted on this wall is an active exhibition of works.
The picture below shows a free puppet show held by another public library, with two shows in half an hour.
There are many children, especially from China, and the whole room is crowded with people. The puppet show is wonderful, not only because it is free.
In the United States, I think public children's play and education do have many benefits. Many things are free or very cheap, which is enviable.
The library has two floors. There are non-fiction books and dvd resources for children and adults on the first floor. The second floor is mainly adult novel books.
There are free internet access areas and reading areas on both floors, and many people will come to the library to study or work with computers.
This is the front desk of the library. Books and cards were given to the past. Every book was successfully borrowed after being swept away. Finally, I will give you a small ticket with the borrowed title, date and return date.
You can return books at the front desk, and there are several outlets outside the library to return books yourself. Just throw the book through that gap. It's very convenient.
This is the gate of the library. This is a very new library. The library where the puppet show is seen is much older. It's not as spacious as this one, and there are wooden floors in it.
I also feel that the library resources in this town are too rich and I want to cry. Some friends complained to me that the library was too bad and there were too few books ... Of course, the places that those who complained used to go were new york and Boston. ...
I heard that the Library of Congress in Washington is a great library. Let's go next time.
The library is in the center of town, and there is a Little Square at the gate. There are also chairs of different sizes. After borrowing books, you can sit outside and eat and read comfortably. Many people will sit/lie on the floor.
There is also a fountain in Little Square, which is not just a fountain. There are billboards next to it listing more than a dozen rules.
This is a fountain for children to play in the water. You must wear a bathing suit to play. You can't go in with shoes. You can't undress a child by the fountain. You can't eat beside them.
Americans are really cold. On a windy day with only a dozen degrees, I was shivering in two long sleeves. Two mothers let two two-year-old girls swim in swimsuits, and then they ran around in wet clothes.
A little girl ran up to me and I asked her if she was cold. She answered coldly ...
Here, these two dolls are shown below.
Of course, this kind of library also has disadvantages. For a baby as big as jujube, it is actually good to read books repeatedly for a period of time, and the sentences inside can be roughly memorized. There are several sets of books I bought at home. I can let her read most of the sentences in each book after reading the first half, which is very good for accumulating vocabulary.
Moreover, the library is so rich in resources that it greedily borrows a bunch of good books every time it goes. Even if I can renew it, I can't read many books thoroughly. This is really the trouble of wealth!
Finally, I recommend a great picture book that I borrowed for the series "Jujube-Maisy". The painting style is lively and lovely, the story is simple, interesting and easy to understand, the picture and text are closely combined, and the sentences are short and pithy. Many books can accept the second half sentence, which is very suitable for children who are babbling and enlightening in English.
Look at how many books I borrowed from Maisy for Xiaozao, and you will know how much I recommend them!
