In March 2000, Central South Institute of Technology and Hengyang Medical College merged to form South China University, and in June 2002, the Sixth Research Institute of Nuclear Industry merged. The school is a key university supported by the basic capacity building project of colleges and universities in the central and western regions of China, an outstanding engineer and excellent doctor education and training plan approved by the Ministry of Education, and a number of undergraduate enrollment institutions.
