Hangzhou Qiantang River Bridge is the first modern bridge built by China people themselves. It is a famous work of Mao Yisheng, a bridge expert in China.

1965438+In September, 2006, Mao Yisheng was selected by Tangshan Road and Mine School and sent to Cornell University in the United States to study as a graduate student in bridge. A year later, he got a master's degree. Later, he went to the night school of Civil Engineering Department of Gary Tech University in the United States to study for a doctorate. 19 19 received the first doctor's degree in engineering from Gary Tech University in the United States and returned to China that year.

From 65438 to 0933, 37-year-old Mao Yisheng was appointed as the engineering director of Qiantang River Bridge Project, responsible for designing and leading the construction of the bridge.

When building a bridge at the mouth of Qiantang River, the tide and quicksand in Qiantang River are two extremely insurmountable obstacles. The tide came, and it went straight from the sea to the estuary, which was very rough. The tidal head pushes forward like a wall, reaching a height of 9 meters, with amazing destructive power. Therefore, to build a bridge here, it must be doubly strong, otherwise how can it withstand the impact of the tide?

The bottom of Qiantang River is also different from other rivers. The rock layer is covered with a thick layer of quicksand, up to 40 meters deep. These quicksands are very fine grains of sand. When they are washed away by water, they drift with the tide, making the river bottom uncertain. Therefore, since ancient times, there has been a saying that Qiantang River has no bottom. Faced with these difficulties, Mao Yisheng summed up practical experience and introduced a new technology-pneumatic caisson method, and applied it to piers in underwater structures. In the process of spinning, he personally went into the caisson and conducted on the spot.

On September 26th, 1937, the first modern bridge designed and built by our country miraculously appeared on the bottomless river at an extraordinary speed. The total length of Qiantang River Bridge is l453, of which the main bridge1072m is divided into 16 equal spans connecting the north and south banks. The bridge is divided into two floors, the upper is a two-lane highway and the lower is a single-lane railway. The north-south approach bridge and pier of the bridge have various forms and beautiful shapes. It complements Pagoda of Six Harmonies on the nearby Moon Mountain, and the scenery is more spectacular.
