Xuhui District, under the jurisdiction of Shanghai, is located in the southwest of downtown Shanghai, adjacent to Huangpu District in the northeast, facing Huangpu River in the east, facing Pudong New Area across the river, bordering Minhang District in the west and Jing 'an District and Changning District in the north. The whole area is 54.93 square kilometers.

Xuhui Xujiahui is the sub-center of Shanghai southwest. Xuhui is one of the central cities in Shanghai that basically completed the transformation of the old district earlier. Xuhui focuses on developing high-tech industries such as information technology, modern biomedicine and nano-new materials, forming the industrial scale of industrial electronic information industry and biomedical industry.
Railroads, waterways, interchanges and elevated roads crisscross Xuhui, which are the traffic arteries between the urban area and Minhang District, Fengxian District, Pudong New Area, Jinshan District, Qingpu District and Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangxi and Anhui provinces.
Xuhui has Shanghai Jiaotong University, East China University of Science and Technology, Shanghai Normal University and other institutions of higher learning. Shanghai Botanical Garden, Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Memorial Hall and Xujiahui Garden are national 4A tourist attractions. National Cuiyuan, Shanghai Theatre, West Coast Art Design Demonstration Zone and Shanghai Photography Center are all located in Xuhui.
