From vanity to respect for needs?
Vanity, a derogatory term in our culture, has always been with us in the process of our youth growth, along with my adolescence and growth period. It is a high-frequency word that has been hovering in my mind since junior high school.

With my continuous learning and growth, my self-awareness began to improve, and the hat I often wear to myself seems to have to be re-examined. It is quite possible that my understanding of the concept of vanity is wrong. It is easy to distinguish vanity and the need for respect mentioned in Maslow's hierarchical demand curve, but what bothers me is that I can't distinguish them correctly, clearly and inevitably. It can be seen that wrong ideas in our minds are likely to mislead our thinking and behavior.

Vanity and respect need to be confused. This is not nitpicking, but distinguishing right from wrong. If we can't understand these two concepts accurately, we will encounter a big bottleneck when we grow up to a certain stage, which will easily bring us great trouble.

Vanity often plays a strong role in promoting the growth of teenagers, because most children who enter adolescence have a strong desire for self-expression and need to be respected, so they often have rebellious psychology and behavior. Children of this age will look up to their peers, pay attention to the girls in the next class, and package themselves in dress, behavior and language, which is unique. Based on evolutionary psychology and Freud's universalism, sex will become the first driving force for teenagers' growth, because the essence of biology is gene transmission. As we continue to learn and grow up until we become mature, when we begin to have a greater sense of control over ourselves, our family and the outside world, if we can't change from the growth mode of adolescence, this psychological mode is likely to become the bottleneck for our continued growth. Fortunately, at this age, I can still realize that vanity is only an effective driving means in the last stage for myself. The last stage here refers to the stable period from adolescence to work, and it can also be understood as three years from junior high school to high school to college and then to work. I often ask myself a question, am I doing this to look good, or do I really want to gain something? Is fashion handsome or really handsome?

And if vanity is our core driving force, it will have an impact, that is, we often do things that make ourselves look awesome, and we often get stuck in it; If we take respecting needs as the core, then our behavior will really make us grow, break through ourselves and finally realize ourselves.

Another concept related to vanity is narcissism, which has two manifestations: 1. My relative position in my group, and 2. The position of our group relative to other groups. Narcissism and vanity are often interdependent, and narcissism tends to be closed. If you can't jump out of your group and look at the position of your group relative to other groups, you are likely to close yourself up and become a frog in the well, so you can only build a car behind closed doors. The last straw that triggered this thinking storm was the study in Beijing, which triggered a torrent of thinking about the concept of vanity in my mind. This study and exchange in Beijing gave me a more real and clear understanding of the relative position of teachers and other industry groups, as well as the relative position of our regional groups and other regional groups. With such a horizontal comparison, it is easy to see the differences and gaps.

China Education Society held an open day for members in Beijing. As an invited guest of Onion Mathematics, I watched the observation and research on the future education classroom of the interconnection of schools, families and society. What surprised me at the conference was not only seeing the great gods with my own eyes and listening to their ideas, but also giving me a lot of thoughts on teaching, especially the practice of educational informatization in the past three years. Onion mathematics, learning and thinking, and core literacy have successively entered my teaching career. Onion mathematics first aroused my thinking and practice, and it has been used as an indispensable teaching resource and tool since March 20 15. In the past three years, from knowing onions to being familiar with onions, and then growing up with onions, I have been constantly harvesting and pleasantly surprised.

In the picture of Yang, CEO of Onion Mathematics, I think of the words gentle, knowledgeable, rich and polite, which have a very important influence on the shaping of my personal quality. In addition to having top-class excellent academic qualifications, Beijing No.4 Middle School, Eton College and Harvard University began to care about and pay attention to the educational equity in China during their college years, and they continued to devote themselves to it, and set up a non-profit organization-Sunshine Bookstore, and later jointly founded Onion Mathematics, which greatly promoted educational equity and accelerated the process of educational reform. His feelings, responsibility, responsibility and doer spirit are the beacon to guide me forward.

Masters gathered, experts gathered, such as Kim Jong-kook, Li Haipeng, Ma Ning ... and teachers Zhang Huicheng and Liu Jiwen, whom I met at the Hope for Excellent Teachers Conference last year, are very honored to be on the same stage with the experts. The energy that Generate has gained from these predecessors is enormous, which impels me to move forward invisibly. What I see is a trend of internal drive, self-improvement and changing the sense of mission, but on the other hand, my internal drive is pitiful, and my core needs are still vague, staying in a relatively illusory stage-vanity.

Making friends circle is the simplest and most direct example. No matter where I study communication, I will make a graphic summary in my circle of friends. The primary motivation is to prove myself in the circle of friends, and most of the content sent out is also packaged and added, which will lead to a kind of glitz, a kind of glitz that I am afraid of. Is this glitz a continuation of vanity or an immature inertia of thinking mode?

I was moved by this research, not only by the people I met, but also by what they did, which showed me that many people in this world are trying to change the world. Let me reflect, the most relaxed state in this world is standing on the moral high ground, constantly shouting morality, full of feelings and doing nothing. If you don't take action, you will become a giant in theory and a dwarf in action. These awesome people I mentioned touched me because they are both thinkers and activists.

Onion Mathematics did not exist as a commercial company at the beginning, but only as a public welfare organization at the beginning. After seeing the backward situation of education in remote mountainous areas of China, I am determined to try my best to narrow the gap of insufficient and unbalanced educational resources in China. The original idea is to provide hardware, but it takes a long time for teachers to use information tools regularly. In the process of students' acquiring knowledge, teachers are important promoters of implementing teaching and promoting curriculum, but we also find that teachers' teaching level is uneven. Is there any way for curriculum resources to reach students directly without going through the "middleman" of teachers? From this point of view, loading high-quality micro-courses on a flat plate reveals that high-quality curriculum resources are extremely scarce at present. How to explain the concept, nature and theorem of mathematics from the perspective of students' learning in a way that children like to accept, so that students can directly connect with knowledge, has become an urgent problem, so the onion mathematics micro-course was born.

In the three years of using onion mathematics for information teaching, my understanding has become more and more profound, and my understanding of these information products for auxiliary teaching has become more and more clear. It is not only a teaching tool, but also a ladder for me to know myself constantly and grow organically. In this journey of my life, I feel very lucky to be able to walk with such a group of excellent people. In the past three years, after continuous exploration, summary, promotion, rejection and innovation, I have come into contact with the latest information tools, learned the latest theoretical frontier, and started to build the overall framework of the whole education and teaching, with more and more solid steps. It is irreplaceable to attack the teacher's position more clearly, but this cognitive process can only be truly realized if you have experienced it yourself.

When I first started using onion math, I was very insecure, because no teacher wanted to believe that there were some products that could replace teaching. In fact, it is indeed more efficient than the teacher in knowledge telling, and there was no series of theoretical and practical experience for our reference at that time, and we were afraid to hear other teachers say, why does this teacher only play micro-lessons in class? It was not until I arrived in Beijing this time that I really saw and deeply realized that it is a systematic problem to improve the current situation of education with new technologies. We not only need to guide the direction with ideas and support actions with theories, but also need to use scene creation tools and explore methods in combination with reality.

With regard to information-based education and teaching, the state formulates strategies according to the needs of national conditions, and first makes top-level design to create ideas, that is, to cultivate people with all-round development in morality, intelligence, physique, beauty and labor; Under this concept, different theoretical frameworks are constructed in combination with the actual discipline, from the two foundations, mathematical ability and thinking method, to the four foundations and four abilities, and then to the current core literacy; Under the main framework, a large number of tools and methods have emerged to meet different usage scenarios. For example, onion mathematics is to use information tools to solve the imbalance of educational resources. Based on students' cognitive psychology and behavior design, the core method of applying onion mathematics-WSQ learning method and the teaching method of learning and thinking advocated by teacher Zhang Huicheng have been formed. Now start thinking about how to achieve core literacy. How to switch methods between different scenes? It is also the direction of study, thinking and practice in the future.

In fact, everyone is a little pretentious, and it is difficult for me to jump out of such a real human existence. After realizing the difference between my own group and other groups, I had to return to my own group. When we look at the scenery outside and look back at the inner world of our group, we will inevitably have a sense of superiority, which comes from the respect and admiration of people around us, but for us, we tend to amplify this respect and finally do things just to get such a feeling, which will constrain our growth. Therefore, we should realize that success is only an illusory bubble and a milestone on the road to growth. The most important thing is to keep moving forward, move forward with people around us and grow up with everyone.

About my own growth, from recitation to hosting, from reading to writing, to joining and organizing various societies, I have built my personal ability in many dimensions, and my competitiveness has indeed improved a lot. I also found that my relative position in the group began to stand out. At this time, it is easy to produce a kind of thinking inertia, always trying to break through the routine and create some subversion.

For example, the motivation of using onion mathematics at first was that it was difficult to make a breakthrough in the traditional teaching field. With the help of these new technical tools, I can explore the world that others have never set foot in. Tools exist to solve problems. Even the best concepts and theories can't be used at the tool level in the end. Killing dragons is just empty talk, far less useful than killing pigs in the real world.

The onion math app is not only a platform for teaching and learning, but also produces a lot of high-quality content by itself, forming a complete closed loop. By inventing specific teaching tools to realize some educational ideas, I think such talents are awesome. Similarly, in terms of innovation, there is also learning to think big, which is a set of teaching methodology and a teaching tool. The learning team helps teachers to integrate learning disciplines, optimize classroom learning plans and links, and help students achieve efficient classroom self-study through continuous entry into schools and the front line.

As for core literacy, it is a concept that I just started to contact. Now I can't present it well with a specific tool. Of course, I will continue to study. Just like when I first learned to guide teaching with the help of learning thinking, I integrated learning thinking with the classroom through theoretical study and continuous attempt. Learn to think big, simple disassembly is self-study, thinking and expression, and different learning methods will have different learning effects. For example, just listening, we usually only remember 20% of the whole content, and the efficiency will be higher through listening and writing, which can be improved to 60%. If reading, thinking and accurate expression are combined, students can basically master more than 90% of the content. In fact, the reason is very simple, and the best way to learn is actually teaching. I began to rebuild my classroom, starting with papers and comments. Students' participation is higher and classroom efficiency is higher. The students' feedback is "Teacher, we hope that the future exercises will be like this". I think this is the beginning of self-breakthrough, and I respect students' cognitive rules more.

On the basis of using tools, I not only integrated the theory of learning and thinking, but also kept learning related methods, such as Cornell notes, the design and application of accumulated books. I hope that the top-level concept theory can be implemented in specific teaching scenarios through such specific tools. The focus of my next study is how to put the core literacy on the ground.

For my own growth, I always have doubts about the effect and efficiency of traditional teaching, and always want to find another way to subvert teaching. But the deeper I know, the more I find that this is all caused by my ignorance, just like the more people who don't know the product, the more they will put forward unrealistic requirements. Why do I have such an idea? Because when our thinking only stays at the level of ideas and theories, it is easy to stand and talk, but when the specific methods and tools are implemented, the expression will be empty and irrelevant. The basic direction of education and management in the future is to guide and meet the demand from the bottom up with the help of information tools, and constantly reverse design and iteration.

From being a student myself to being a teacher now, I have experienced three years of career exploration, that is, I have just finished a complete junior high school. At this stage, I experienced a lot of thinking and confusion about this kind of learning in schools in the education system, from initial resistance to gradual acceptance of institutional teaching, and now acceptance and recognition. Combined with a short story shared by teacher Wu Zhihong, this story is about his epiphany in the college entrance examination. When he was walking outside the train track, he suddenly realized a truth: no matter how fast the train runs, it must run on the track to create great value.

This sentence stung my heart. What I thought was maverick, I was "derailed" most of the time, because a lot of energy was spent on self-consumption. But Yang said some contrary views: the old map can't reach the new world! How to treat the views of the two big bosses correctly? In fact, to sum up, the only answer is, when should we obey the rules? Under what circumstances should we be brave in innovation?

Established rules and tracks are the basic conditions to help us walk freely in the old world, which can send us to the edge of the new world, so that we can be prepared and explore bravely. The practice of respecting human nature deserves our abiding by the rules, but it requires us to boldly challenge and innovate some rules that are contrary to human nature. Old maps are very helpful to understand the real world, but if we want to continue to understand the world and explore the territory of mankind, we must innovate and explore the road that few people take. With the touch of two bosses and my own experiences and ideas, I began to pay attention to the real operation of this world and began to try to accept and identify with this real world. I feel that everything is relieved. The first thing I have to do is to constantly transform and improve myself on the established track, and then accelerate my understanding of the world.

Back to thinking about vanity and respecting needs, it is very important to have a clear, correct and necessary definition. Just like adolescence, when we haven't gained a foothold in this world, vanity is the driving force, which will make us look stronger, but vanity can't be the internal driving force. It can only be a staged tool for our growth. When we grow up to a certain extent, we need to change from vanity to respect for needs. This truth is the same as that mentioned in the previous section, how to turn educational ideas into concrete tools.

When our thinking begins to become real and concrete, it means that we begin to grow and mature. Where does the need for respect come from? Maslow put forward the concept of "respecting needs" in his hierarchical demand curve. He divided all human needs into two kinds, one is advanced demand and the other is low demand. Low-level needs can be divided into physiological, safety and emotional needs, and high-level needs can be divided into five needs: respect and self-realization.

When our low-level physiological needs are met, we will seek higher-level psychological needs. The satisfaction of low-level needs can be met from the outside, for example, physiological sleep and food and clothing are the most basic physiological needs, and can also be understood as the demand for safety. As a human species, we are inherently insecure, so anxiety and fear are common in people. For the satisfaction of safety needs, some people will seek satisfaction through the pursuit of material abundance, while others will satisfy it through emotional sustenance, and material and emotion should only be regarded as phased goals. If they mistakenly regard it as the goal of life, it is easy to fall into a state of being mercenary and deliberately pleasing. As a gregarious animal, human beings need sex, communication and connection, which is a necessary condition for gene transmission.

When the physiological needs are met externally, some people will realize that we should seek higher psychological needs, that is, the needs of respect and self-realization, which can only be met internally. Only by constantly enriching one's knowledge and experience can one enrich one's inner psychological world. In other words, when we create value for a specific human group, we will gain higher respect value in the group, and at the same time let our ideals and self-realization be satisfied, which means that this satisfaction must be the feedback from the real world, and happiness is created in labor.

The role of vanity in Maslow's hierarchy of needs does not really meet the basic physiological, safety and emotional needs, but only makes us look satisfied, just to prove to the outside world. Vanity is a biological instinct, that is, true human nature, which is understandable, but when we grow to a higher level, vanity is the resistance and will become the bottleneck of our growth. At this time, we need to constantly examine ourselves from the heart to understand the true face of the world and turn vanity into inner harmony and respect.

Take the education and teaching industry as an example. In the first stage of growth, some teachers prove their relative position in the group through growth, and after gaining enough sense of security, they begin to move towards the road of masters. Make a positive self-fulfilling prophecy for yourself. I hope I can continue to learn and express myself in the future, so that I can embark on this master road.
