It is understood that the number of master's degree authorization points has been increasing since the postgraduate education of nursing specialty was carried out in China from 65438 to 0992. At present, more than 40 colleges and universities have enrolled nursing postgraduates, and some schools have also opened doctoral programs in nursing.

According to the Catalogue of Disciplines and Specialties for Granting Doctoral and Master's Degrees and Training Postgraduates approved by the State Council Academic Degrees Committee and State Education Commission (now Ministry of Education) 1997, the related first-level disciplines are: biology, biomedical engineering, basic medicine, clinical medicine, stomatology, public health and preventive medicine, integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine, pharmacy, public health and preventive medicine. Nursing, like internal medicine, surgery, gynecology and pediatrics, belongs to two disciplines of clinical medicine.

Besides peking university health science center, Capital Medical University, Huazhong Medical University, Chongqing Medical University, Southern Medical University and China Medical University, Fudan University, Sun Yat-sen University, Central South University and Chongqing College of Humanities and Science are also on the list.
