Airy function (Ai(x)) is a special function named by george biddell airy, a British astronomer and mathematician. He met this function when he was studying optics in 1838. The symbol of Ai(x) was introduced by Harold jeffries. Ai(x) and correlation function Bi(x) (also called Airy function) are the solutions of the following differential equation: This equation is called Airy equation or Stokes equation. This is the simplest second-order linear differential equation with a turning point, at which the function changes from periodic vibration to exponential growth (or attenuation).
