I took a vacation before the start of primary school, took my two brothers to a movie and ate a big meal, which was a farewell to the fully relaxed winter vacation and arranged my mood to prepare for the start of the next semester of Primary Six.
This winter vacation made the two brothers live a very loose life, and only gave them a few general directions, such as exercising and reading (in fact, this is not needed at all), and then let them relax and do what they want. Of course, I also hope to have some healing effects. Besides the collapse of Qi family last semester, my mother's nervous and tired mind is also needed. (Editor's Note: Qi and Lin are twin brothers. For their situation, please refer to this article → click here to read the article. )
I work in the field of education, and I can appreciate the hard work of teachers. When children reach different stages, we may not be able to predict and deal with all kinds of performances in group life immediately. We can only reflect on whether we have been a competent mother at all times. Although we can see many places that can better meet children's needs, we dare not ask too much for teachers' teaching. After all, we know that our children are really challenging. Coupled with the unfriendly environment and the pressure from other parents, I believe that the teacher's burden is not light.
Through the introduction of old kindergarten parents, I went to a school to interview teachers before school started. This school adopts the Waldorf system (sorry again, there is no Montessori middle school near our home! ), if it is certain that it will be their first seventh grade, we are not afraid to be mice after many battles, and we are afraid that if we fail again, our children will lose courage and confidence. Therefore, we will fill in the long student information carefully, make an appointment with the teacher for an interview, and do homework with Cai's father to prepare again.
The school has been established for many years, and a primary school and a middle school are about to be established. They hope that there will be a high school in the future. At present, there are only seventy or eighty children in the school. The teacher we interviewed is the teacher who is currently in charge of grade six. There are eight students (seven men and one woman) now. It is estimated that the number of girls in grade seven will increase to about 1/3, but the number is still small. Ideally, he would like to have them.
Teacher Yang is a single middle-aged male teacher, very talkative and enthusiastic. He is very thoughtful and practical, which makes me feel that I can entrust my child to him. During the interview, it happened that Mr. Waldorf from Germany was training all the teachers. When Mr. Yang showed us around the campus, I saw the results of some teachers' collective creation and teaching encouragement, which reminded me that one of the reasons why schools outside the system attracted me was that these teachers were really enthusiastic about teaching and were willing to keep growing themselves.
Teacher Yang's respect for the students, especially the different characteristics of each child, is undoubtedly revealed in the conversation. I absolutely believe that he won't teach a bunch of canned students (good, obedient and good grades), and I also believe that the two brothers will swim in such an environment but study actively, but it is inevitable that Dad Cai still asked some questions about the curriculum and the depth of knowledge transfer, and Teacher Yang didn't rush to let us know that the knowledge we should give our children will not be less than the system. The difference lies in the method. What teachers do here is to stimulate children's learning enthusiasm with real teaching experience. Because the teaching time and theme are clear and complete, children's learning will not be cut, but more exploration and giving in the situation, focusing on honing willpower. In addition to understanding children's emotions, they will also teach carpentry, music (everyone plays the violin), language (both English and German are taught by foreign teachers) and physical fitness.
Another attractive feature of the school is that there are no exams and assessments, and the homework at home is customized. Each student develops his own theme according to his own interest and ability. The teacher just sets up scaffolding and lets the children fill the rest of the body by themselves. Teacher Yang saw that we seemed a little uneasy and said, "I put a bunch of comments from the system in the classroom. If children want to know and measure their own level, they can always go there to get it and do it themselves! This reminds me of the last final exam of my two brothers. I also bought a math evaluation book to share with those who didn't attend the remedial class, but I made it clear to them before I bought it, hoping that they would know their own shortcomings through evaluation, rather than just caring about scores, so I gave them the answer, so that they could correct their mistakes and learn from them. If there were any questions, they could discuss with me. Teacher Yang laughs about Feng's educational philosophy and children.
As for the future development of children, I think all parents who want to enter the system should be prepared, that is, they should be completely open and accept all possibilities. In the future, as long as children choose the road that really suits them, there should be no doubt (not necessarily the first three volunteers, nor necessarily the friendship between Taiwan and Taiwan). If children are willing to spend more energy to prepare for adaptation and return to institutional education in Taiwan Province Province after three or six years, of course, parents will have no problem; However, if children make different choices, it may be direct employment or going to technical and vocational schools and so on. Do parents have the courage to bear it together?
At present, our two brothers are still collecting information in an all-round way and considering the feasibility (but we are hesitant because our classmates are all in schools within the system and their adaptability within the system is acceptable), so we dare not strongly recommend it to you now. After all, there are still many unknowns, such as the financial situation of the school and the stability of teachers, so we just share a little to let friends in need know that in addition to grades, grades can actually be there.
