People habitually think that reading is the behavior of Chinese, English and other liberal arts. When it comes to reading, I tend to think that it has nothing to do with math teaching. I simply think that mathematics teaching is problem-solving teaching, and I always think that just remember the formulas and rules. It is a waste of time for students to study. Why don't I give more examples? Sometimes, although I have the idea of strengthening students' reading, I switch to my own reading and analysis. Some teachers often ask students to open their textbooks when assigning homework, and students only open their math textbooks when they encounter problems in their homework, lacking the habit of reading math. In fact, this view is incorrect and one-sided. This situation reduces students' chances of contacting mathematics textbooks, and sometimes replaces students' thinking, which is not conducive to the improvement of students' self-study ability. In fact, most students can't judge problems and quickly capture useful information from them, which is directly related to students' reading comprehension ability.
In fact, "reading method" is a basic teaching method for both Chinese and mathematics. There is a difference between "reading" in mathematics teaching and "reading" in Chinese teaching. Reading teaching is a basic and important link in Chinese teaching. It is a series of Chinese training to cultivate students' ability to understand written language. Therefore, the content of Chinese reading materials is often more literary, a reflection of language and culture, and pays more attention to understanding the artistic conception behind the words; However, the content of reading materials in mathematics teaching is relatively simple, and they are all descriptive written expressions. They are more inclined to show the problem scenario to readers in the simplest words, so that readers can experience a series of quantitative relations or equivalent relations in short words. It is precisely because math exercises describe a series of complex relationships with the simplest words, so I think that when reading math problems, we need to try to figure out the meaning of words and the direct or indirect relationship between words in more detail. When solving a math problem, if you can't accurately understand the meaning of the problem through reading, even if a problem takes a day or even a few days, you can't make a correct answer! From this point of view, "reading method" is a huge cornerstone in mathematics teaching and the basis for the correct application of all mathematical methods! The connotation of "reading method" in mathematics teaching is actually how to guide students to read problems and understand the meaning of problems in one stage, so as to achieve the purpose of mastering and solving various practical application problems independently. The connotation emphasizes the guiding role of teachers. Teachers' guidance is very important when students' knowledge background and ability are limited. The characteristics of "mathematical language" and the level of mastering mathematical terms are important signs of students' intellectual development and acceptance. Students with low level of mathematical language development have relatively poor sensitivity to mathematical language information in class and slow thinking transformation, which leads to low acceptance of knowledge. Teaching practice also shows that such students have poor understanding ability and often encounter difficulties and mistakes. This restricts the large-scale improvement of mathematics teaching quality.
After I pay attention to the reading problem in mathematics teaching, I think the importance of reading is reflected in the following five aspects through learning and combining my own teaching practice.
1 Paying attention to mathematics reading, enriching mathematics language system and improving mathematics language level has important practical educational significance.
The new curriculum standard points out that students' mathematics learning activities should be a lively, proactive and personalized process because of their different cultural environment, family background and their own way of thinking. As an important activity in human social life, reading is the main means for human beings to acquire knowledge and an important way to know the world. With the rapid development of science and technology, it is often necessary to make appropriate choices and judgments on a large number of complex information. For example, people often need to know the quality and performance of electronic products through instructions, and pay attention to the stock market trend chart and lottery winning rate through data, which requires people to have comprehensive reading ability based on Chinese reading ability, including foreign language reading, mathematics reading and scientific reading ability. With the rapid development of science and technology, especially information technology, people not only need to have the ability to read Chinese and foreign languages. The new round of educational reform is devoted to exploring more effective teaching methods and learning methods. Therefore, attaching importance to mathematics reading teaching is not only a countermeasure against the problems existing in traditional mathematics classroom teaching, but also the need of inheritance and innovation of mathematics culture, and it is also the conscious practice of quality education and lifelong learning in mathematics education. Paying attention to mathematics reading is helpful to improve mathematics language level and cultivate mathematics communication ability; It is beneficial to cultivate students' self-study ability to acquire knowledge independently, which is in line with modern educational thought.
2. Mathematics reading contributes to the improvement of mathematics language level and the cultivation of mathematics communication ability.
The carrier of mathematical communication is mathematical language, which is symbolic, logical, rigorous and abstract. If we only pay attention to the calculation steps of formulas and ignore the understanding of mathematical language in mathematics teaching, it will be difficult for students to adapt to the increasingly developed mathematical life of modern science and technology. Developing students' mathematical language ability is the basis of improving their mathematical communication ability. It is difficult to enrich and perfect one's own mathematical language system just by listening to the teacher in class. Only by reading and communicating well in the standard mathematical language of books can we standardize our own mathematical language, exercise our ability to understand and express mathematical language, and improve our level of mathematical language, thus establishing a good mathematical language system and improving our ability of mathematical communication.
3. Paying attention to mathematics reading and cultivating reading ability are helpful to individualized learning.
The core problem of quality education is to make every student develop in an all-round way. It is impossible to achieve this goal only by collective teaching. The effective method is to combine collective teaching with individual learning, and the key to effective individual learning is to teach reading. Through observation and conversation with students, it is found that one of the factors that make some students feel difficult in mathematics learning is their poor reading ability, especially their lack of ability to read and understand mathematics books. Therefore, we must attach importance to the teaching of mathematics reading. Its unique function is even irreplaceable by other teaching methods.
4. Paying attention to mathematics reading is helpful to give full play to the role of teaching materials.
Mathematics textbooks are carefully compiled by experts who write mathematics textbooks, taking into account many factors such as students' physiological and psychological characteristics, educational and teaching principles, characteristics of mathematics disciplines and so on, and have high reading value. What about the status quo? Most teachers and students don't make good use of textbooks. They explain them in a simple way in class, and then ask students to turn over their textbooks, do exercises or walk to the blackboard. After that, they summarized their homework and only used textbooks as question banks. In my opinion, this is the teacher's wonderful explanation and the real reason why some students' grades are not ideal. Bell, a famous American mathematics educator, made a comprehensive discussion on the function of mathematics textbooks and how to use them effectively. One of the most important points is to take textbooks as the source of students' learning materials, not just the source of teachers' own lecture materials, and we must pay attention to the reading of mathematics textbooks. In fact, it has been clearly pointed out in the mathematics syllabus of compulsory education in China that teachers must pay attention to "guiding students to read the text carefully". The same is true abroad. For example, the former Soviet Union's Mathematics Syllabus for Ordinary Middle Schools emphasized that in the process of organizing mathematics teaching, "we must pay attention to the use of teaching materials, that is, after the teacher explains, let students read the text, learn some materials by themselves according to the test questions, and read short words of exercises or theorems; The American School Mathematics Curriculum and Evaluation Criteria also encourages students to read mathematics books. Therefore, it has become one of the characteristics of modern mathematics education to attach importance to the reading of mathematics textbooks and make full use of their educational value.
Strengthening the teaching of mathematics reading can greatly improve the quality of mathematics teaching.
Now some math problems are very complicated. In order to create a reasonable situation, people feel that problems really come from life, and learning is to solve various problems in life. In this way, there are many words in the topic that have nothing to do with the quantitative relationship, which increases the difficulty for students to solve problems. Therefore, in order to deal with such problems, we must strengthen reading teaching. Students' understanding of the importance of mathematics reading has improved. If math teachers properly grasp the teaching of reading and persevere, it will have an immeasurable positive effect on students' learning activities. Some students who feel that they have made remarkable progress said: I have encountered difficult problems before, and I have not carefully understood and thought deeply. Now I can patiently understand some difficult problems; Some students said: I dare not speak at the beginning of school, for fear that I can't express myself clearly. I'm much better now.
Only by reading can we break through the mystery in the world of mathematical language. Reading has become an excellent breakthrough in mathematics teaching, an extremely important learning content and the core of teaching. Therefore, teachers should set aside reading time for students, find reading opportunities for students, create reading opportunities for students, give full play to the reading value of textbooks, cultivate students' reading habits, improve students' reading ability and serve students' lifelong development. Teachers should fully understand the educational function of mathematics reading and bring mathematics reading into the basic link of mathematics classroom teaching.
