The first undergraduate bioinformatics graduates of Harbin Medical University are favored.
A few days ago, the first undergraduate majoring in bioinformatics in China graduated from Harbin Medical University. Because these graduates have a profound mathematical foundation and master computer information technology, they are suitable for medical information management system, office automation, network management, pharmacy, laboratory, agriculture, environmental protection and other disciplines, so they are highly valued by domestic employers and universities. Of the 95 students who graduated for the first time, 53 were admitted to graduate schools at home and abroad. 40 students were successfully employed.

Bioinformatics is an important interdisciplinary subject that uses mathematics, computer and information science technology to effectively extract, integrate, analyze and apply massive biological data and information, and discover the inherent quantitative laws in biology, especially molecular biology. It plays an increasingly important role in medicine, agriculture, environmental protection and other fields, especially in the identification of human diseases and functional genes, gene expression and function research in protein, rational drug design and screening, research and development of digital medical instrument software and so on.

According to reports, the Department of Bioinformatics Science and Technology of Harbin Medical University was established in 1992. It is one of the earliest units engaged in research and teaching in the field of bioinformatics in China. It belongs to the doctoral program of the first-class discipline of biology in this school, and has two master programs of biomedical engineering and biophysics. In 2003, in view of the shortage of biological talents and the urgent demand for talents in biomedical development, Harbin Medical University took the lead in setting up the undergraduate major of bioinformatics in China.
