Do English majors need to learn advanced mathematics?
College English major is a purely liberal arts major, so there is no need to learn advanced mathematics. In addition to learning English, English majors need to choose a small language, such as French, Japanese, German and Russian. Some schools have regulations on the choice of small languages. Higher mathematics refers to a more complicated part of mathematical objects and methods compared with elementary mathematics and secondary mathematics. Algebra, geometry and simple set theory in middle school are called middle school mathematics, which is considered as the transition between elementary mathematics in primary and secondary schools and higher mathematics in universities. Generally speaking, advanced mathematics is a basic subject formed by calculus, algebra, geometry and their intersection, and its main contents include: sequence, limit and calculus. The basic subjects of postgraduate examinations in engineering, science and engineering and finance, and the courses supporting Advanced Mathematics usually include: linear algebra (advanced algebra for mathematics majors), probability theory and mathematical statistics (some mathematics majors study separately).
