1、GRE
GRE, sponsored by educational testing service (ETS), is an examination result required by graduate schools of American and Canadian universities (except management schools and law schools), and it is also the most important criterion for professors to award scholarships to applicants. The Examination Center of the Ministry of Education is responsible for the centralized management of China and undertakes foreign examinations such as GRE.
There are two kinds of GRE tests: one is general test or aptitude test, and the other is professional test or advanced test.
The general ability test is a dual-mode test, that is, the logical composition test is a computerized test, and the vocabulary and quantification part is a paper-and-pencil test. The general proficiency test mainly examines the candidates' basic English ability and the breadth and depth of English knowledge. It consists of three parts: the first part is analytical writing, which includes two tasks, namely, asking candidates to express their personal opinions on a question (question task) and analyzing an argument (argument task). The total time for the computer examination of analytical writing is two hours; The second part is the vocabulary part. This part is very extensive, involving astronomy, geography, humanities, science, art, politics and history. The third part is the quantitative part. This part is all the basic problems in mathematics, including geometry, algebra, statistical diagram, intelligence test and so on. The main purpose is to test candidates' potential ability in basic mathematics, as well as their ability to understand, judge and reason mathematical problems. The difficulty and depth of the topic sometimes depend on the examinee's understanding of the description and explanation of the topic.
The dual-mode GRE general ability test requires candidates to complete the computer test and the paper-and-pencil test in the same examination year (for example, during the period from July/KLOC-0 to June 30th of the following year, candidates must register and reserve seats to take the computer test before taking the paper-and-pencil test). The computer test of GRE general ability test is held every working day, and the paper-and-pencil test is held twice a year in June and 10 respectively.
GRE subject examination is GRE professional examination, whose content is to measure the knowledge, skills and abilities of candidates in a certain subject or professional field, so as to help colleges and universities better understand the abilities of applicants in a certain subject. At present, there are eight majors, namely: biology, biochemistry, chemical chemistry, computer science, English literature, mathematics, physical physics and psychology. To register for GRE professional examination, you must send the registration form and examination fee directly to ETS in the United States or log on to ETS website in http://www.gre.org.
2、TWE
That is, the test of written English and the test of written expression ability. 1986 to 2006, before the TOEFL reform, it was conducted together with the TOEFL test, and there was no additional charge. In China, except for 65438+ 10 month every year, other TOEFL tests (May, August and 65438+ 10 month) are accompanied by the TWE test. However, whether candidates take the TOEFL test with TWE ultimately depends on the requirements of the school that is going to apply for this test. TWE scores separately, and TOEFL scores do not add up. TWE's perfect score is 6. This achievement only provides the school with an effective opportunity to understand the applicant's writing level. Many schools will put forward corresponding requirements for TWE scores.
But TWE and TOEFL scores are published at the same time. It must be noted that only the scores of TOEFL and TWE on the same day (that is, at the same time) can be recognized at the same time, and it is impossible to require ETS to report scores twice.
3. GPA
The full name of GPA is Grade Point Average, that is, average grade point average. The GPA of American general courses is 4.0, that is, A=4, B=3, C=2, D= 1. There are also some advanced courses, such as honor courses and AP courses. The GPA score of a single subject can reach 5 points or even 6 points. The accuracy of GPA often reaches 1 to 2 digits after the decimal point, such as 3.0 and 3.45.
4. Saturday
The SAT is sponsored by the American College Board, and its achievements are an important reference for high school students from all over the world to apply for admission qualifications and scholarships in American universities. It and ACT are both called American College Entrance Examination. After the reform of 20 16, the new SAT was divided into three parts: reading, grammar and mathematics, and writing was changed to optional test. ETS undertakes its proposition and grading work. But they are only one of the reference materials for enrollment, unlike the college entrance examination, which plays a completely decisive role, and the results are valid for 2 years.
