191March19, colleagues of Lida Society donated money to rent a house in Nanyangli, Zhaozhou Road, Shanghai, and founded Datong College as an inspirational place for colleagues to give lectures, with the aim of learning academics and understanding applications. Datong pioneered coeducation in China and adopted the credit system at the earliest. It also has the earliest modern physics laboratory in China, and hired the first doctor of mathematics from China to study in the United States. It has trained 39 academicians of the two academies, including 24 academicians of China Academy of Sciences and 6 academicians of China Academy of Engineering 1 (1is a double academician).

1930 The former site of South Station Road of Datong University was expanded to 1 10 mu, and 17 buildings, such as auditorium, library, gymnasium, science laboratory and student dormitory, were built successively, with sports ground and green space. The building is quite large, the books and instruments are complete, and there are nearly 1000 students, so the education has developed greatly.

Datong University 1928 began to build the affiliated middle school. On February 6th, 1932, education bureau of shanghai approved the middle school department to put on record and changed its name to the affiliated middle school. Except for the separation of classrooms and dormitories, the administration and funds are still handled in a unified way with the university, and the preparatory course for the university is closed.

On August 28th, 1937, Japanese planes bombed the riverside wharf of Gaochangmiao and the South Railway Station, and some school buildings in Datong were bombed. 1937 10, when the Chinese community fell, Datong was forced to move from heather to the concession, and classes continued in China Radio Engineering School and Yu Wei Primary School. Datong teachers and students have no economic strength to move to the rear, so Hu Dunfu had to lead some teachers and students to stay in the isolated island of Shanghai and rely on the members of Lida Society to unite teachers and students again. With the support of the school board, he started his second arduous pioneering journey, which gave Datong a new life.

In September, 1938, the Bar Association Building on Lafayette Road (now Fuxing Middle Road) was rented as a temporary school building. There are 979 middle school students and 850 undergraduates. Later, the university changed to borrow the Xiaguang Middle School building in the public concession. In September, 1939, the new teaching building of Xinzha Road was completed, with the middle school attached (high school). The meeting place of the Bar Association is the First Affiliated Middle School (junior high school).

1942, Hu dunfu succeeded Cao huiqun as the principal of the affiliated middle school.

1946, 1 1, the school building of Shanghai Shinan original Datong School was restored, and the first affiliated middle school moved back to South Station Road, that is, Datong Middle School, University Department and Second Affiliated Middle School (now Shanghai May 4th Middle School) still kept Xinzha Road.

In June 1945 1 1, President Hu Dunfu resigned, and the school board promoted Hu as President. Hu flew from Chongqing to Shanghai for school on June 3rd.

1952 10 National College Adjustment. Datong University Business School merged into Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, and School of Science merged into Fudan University. The relevant departments of the Institute of Technology were merged into Tongji University, Jiaotong University and East China Institute of Chemical Technology respectively, while the College of Arts was merged into East China Normal University, and the establishment of Datong University was abolished.

1949, Hu dunfu, the founder of Datong university and the president of Datong university for more than 20 years, went to Taiwan Province province for recuperation at the invitation of his son on the eve of liberation in Shanghai, and later accepted the appointment of Washington state university as a visiting professor, and retired from the school in 1962. In his later years, President Hu tried to restore Datong University in Taiwan Province Province and the United States, but he never succeeded. 1978 1 February 1, he passed away peacefully with "faint regrets" at the age of 92 and was buried in Li Huaxing Evergreen Cemetery. In the last days of his life, he was seen sitting alone by the window at noon, holding a black-and-white photo of Zhang Datong's early aides, rubbing his fingers over and over again.
