Character experience

1942, graduated from primary school in Wang Yuan, and was admitted to No.2 National Middle School in Hechuan County.

1946, Wang Yuan returned to Nanjing with his family, and transferred to the Social Education High School (later renamed Nanjing No.6 Middle School) to attend Grade Two.

From 65438 to 0948, Wang Yuan graduated from high school and was admitted to the Mathematics Department of Zhejiang National Yingshi University.

65438-0950 Wang Yuan was transferred to Zhejiang University due to the preliminary adjustment plan of colleges and universities.

1952, graduated from Zhejiang University, and was recommended by Chen Hesu to the Institute of Mathematics of China Academy of Sciences. A year later, he was assigned to the institute as a number theory teacher, with Mr. Shi Conghua as his teacher.

1952 to 1978, Wang Yuan works in the Institute of Mathematics of China Academy of Sciences as an assistant researcher and associate researcher.

From 65438 to 0966, the "Cultural Revolution" interrupted Wang Yuan's work, and he was wrongly criticized and treated unfairly.

From 65438 to 0978, Wang Yuan was promoted to be a researcher at the Institute of Mathematics of China Academy of Sciences.

1980, Wang Yuan was elected as an academician of China Academy of Sciences.

Major achievements

achievements in scientific research

From 1950s to early 1960s, Wang Yuan applied the screening method to the study of Goldbach conjecture for the first time in China, and proved the propositions {3,4}, 1957 and {2,3}. This is the first time that China scholars have leapt to the leading position in this field. 1973 cooperated with China to prove the general theorem of constructing uniform distribution points of high-dimensional unit cubes with independent unit systems of cyclotomic fields, which was called "Hua-Wang method" by international academic circles. At the end of 1970s, Wang Yuan systematically summarized the application of number theory in approximate analysis. In 1980s, Wang Yuan extended Schmidt theorem to any algebraic number field in Diophantine analysis, and made further work on Diophantine inequality.

personnel training

Wang Yuan has successively trained Ruan Weidong and Zhang Shouwu (a tenured professor at Princeton University) and other mathematical talents.

Cooperated with China to complete the lecture of mathematical analysis "Introduction to Advanced Mathematics".

On the afternoon of April 2, 2004, Wang Yuan was invited to give a lecture at Chongqing Baxian Middle School. Wang Yuan gave instructions on how to cultivate students' interest in mathematics, how to learn mathematics well and how to treat the Olympic Games. Wang Yuan showed his inner interest in mathematics in popular language. Finally, Academician Wang Yuan said: "The most important task for middle school students is to lay a good foundation for learning. Only when the foundation is laid can more and more important research be done. "

Personality assessment

Wang Yuan has made outstanding contributions to the application of analytic number theory, algebraic number theory and number theory methods, and enjoys a high reputation in the international mathematics field and the mathematics field in Hong Kong and Taiwan. (Review by Institute of Mathematics and System Science, China Academy of Sciences)

Wang Yuan is not only a scientist who has made outstanding achievements in the field of mathematics, but also a popular mathematical analyst, making the public feel the fun of mathematics. (Guangming. com Review)

Wang Yuan is not only keen on scientific research, but also serious and responsible for teaching. The 26-year-old proved that the "3+4" proposition in Goldbach's conjecture made China leap to the leading position in the world for the first time. He is a veteran figure in the field of mathematics in China. (Chinese Academy of Sciences University Review)

Academician Wang Yuan not only made outstanding contributions in the basic field of number theory, but also made many achievements and contributions in the application of number theory and popular science. At the same time, Academician Wang Yuan has done a lot of work in training young talents. (Academician Yang Le of China Academy of Sciences)

Academician Wang Yuan is knowledgeable. In addition to the basic research of number theory, he has also made many achievements in the fields of mathematical analysis and application, calligraphy and education. He encourages young people to conduct independent research and not to be superstitious about authority; He trained a large number of outstanding mathematicians for China. (Comments by Professor Zhang Shouwu, a student and academician of the American Academy of Science and Art)

Mr. Wang Yuan is one of the five mathematicians of the older generation in China who studied number theory. (Review of Mathematics Research Center of Zhejiang University)
