Recently, the poet Lu Wenli published the novel Granny Epic, which takes the author's grandmother as the prototype and tells the story of Jiang Xiaoe, the great granddaughter of Jiang Xuefang, the founder of Xuefang Jiangtui, an ordinary working woman's bumpy and extraordinary life, which embodies rich poetic features. Lu Wenli has a unique understanding of personal life, writing mentality, poetry and beauty.

A warm book beyond suffering
Reporter: Please talk about the origin and original intention of writing Grandma's Epic. What do you want to pin on it?
Lu Wenli: I was born in Dongyang, Zhejiang. Before I was six years old, my parents who worked in Hangzhou raised me in the country and was raised by my grandparents. I have been very close to my grandmother since I was a child. It has been my wish for many years to write a book for her. My grandmother experienced the Republic of China, War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, "land reform", three years of natural disasters and the Cultural Revolution ... After the storm, she was still able to keep a calm mind and face life with a smile. By writing about my grandmother, I found that I also learned a lot from her.
Based on my grandmother, this novel tells the love and hate between the great-granddaughter of Jiang Xuefang, the founder of Xuefangjiang ham in old Shanghai, the master of cheongsam and the generals of the national army, and also reflects the hundred-year history of a family. Recently, the "Reading" column of China Civilization Network sponsored by the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee and the Civilization Office made an album for "Grandma's Epic", and took a very correct title, calling it "A Warm Book Beyond Suffering".

Reporter: "Epic" is generally a grand historical narrative and is rarely used to describe individuals. How did you come up with this topic?
Lu Wenli: This novel was published in the fourth issue of October 20 15, and its title is Hemerocallis. When the book was published, the plan was "Grandma's Poems", and the leader of the publishing house suggested adding the word "history", which I think is also quite good. Great men have great men's epics, and little men have little men's epics. This book is about grandma's life, and many "historical" words are humorous and exaggerated, which also shows that it is a poetic narrative, which is different from other novels. In addition, the cover design draft is made of blue calico with the title of my own topic. The combination of blue calico and handwriting is warm and quaint, and looks very grandma. I like it very much, and the readers responded well.

The girl who can write poems in the post office.
Reporter: How did you embark on the creative road? Is it related to your personal growth experience?
Lu Wenli: I grew up in the military compound of Nanshan Road. My father is a soldier. Since I jumped ship, I have been committed to promoting the development of the cultural system. I am the eldest daughter of my family, and my sister and brother are seven or eight years younger than me. My father trained us like soldiers. The family education I received from childhood was to be honest and set an example for my younger brothers and sisters. When I was in primary school, my father instructed me to copy the good words and sentences I usually read in excerpts and sort them out for application in writing.

I was enlightened in Wangzhuang Kindergarten under Leifeng Tower, attended primary school in Laodong Road Primary School at the foot of Wu Shan, attended junior high school in the middle school attached to Hangzhou Normal University in Shannan, Huang Yu, and borrowed high school from my hometown in Dongyang. Because I didn't get the key points after graduating from junior high school, my parents took me back to my hometown and studied in Lu Middle School (now Liushi Senior High School), ten miles away from Grandma's village. Studying in the countryside, the living conditions are naturally not as good as Hangzhou, but I can go back to my grandmother's house every week and enjoy the care of my grandparents, and I still feel happy and warm. In retrospect, I also want to thank my parents for their decision. Three years of high school life in the countryside is also a fortune for me, otherwise I wouldn't have such a deep understanding of the countryside.
After graduating from high school, I went back to Hangzhou to take the college entrance examination. I didn't get my grades, so I went back to my hometown to repeat. The next year, I failed the college entrance examination because of my poor math. I took the post office recruitment examination and was assigned to the post office of Hangzhou University. At that time, many of my classmates from my hometown in Dongyang were admitted to Hangzhou University. I often run to the counter to see me after class. I remember that the director of the post office was an old lady in Putian, Fujian. She is worried that my work will make mistakes. She saw some classmates chatting at the counter and coaxed them away like sparrows. After the bell rang, the post office quieted down and sat in the counter with a high-speed rail fence. The sound of reading came from my ear, which naturally made me feel lost as a colleague. Perhaps "poets come from pain", and at that time, Gao Yubao's idea of "I want to learn" appeared in my mind.
1992 Lu Wenli interviewed Mr. Wang Zengqi as a cultural reporter of Aviation Newspaper Supplement.
I subscribe to newspapers such as "Poetry" and "Poetry God", and whenever I have time, I lie prone on the counter to write poems. When I finish writing, I will contribute everywhere. The library of Hangzhou University is only open to teachers and students. The kind postmaster and the people in the school logistics office helped me to get a reading card. At one time, as soon as I got off work, I took off my green uniform, took dry food and rode my bike to the library to read books and newspapers.
In this way, I published many poems one after another and won some awards, and soon I became famous on campus. Everyone knows that there is a girl who can write poems in the post office. Teacher Jin and the Chinese Department of Hangzhou University will also talk to me about the literature outside the wall for a while after they get the payment. Mr. Ren is 93 years old and still keeps in touch with us. I remember that he and his wife once went to the post office to send a package to his daughter and gave me a book written by him, Pierre Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais.

After that, he went to the writers' class of Fudan Chinese Department for further study, transferred to the supplement department of Hangzhou Daily as a cultural reporter from 65438 to 0992, and has been working in Hangzhou Daily ever since. In retrospect, if you had been admitted to the university, you might not have embarked on the road of literature. Some things in life, neither good nor bad, are actually tests. You don't have to be afraid, let alone depressed. No process will be wasted. It depends on how you look at it.
Reporter: Granny's Epic has a large volume, complex structure and long time span. Can you introduce its creative framework?
Lu Wenli: The book is divided into five parts, which are composed of three intersecting clues of time and space. In order to highlight the narrative and lyrical interweaving characteristics of the novel, I adopted the form of opera in the division of chapters. The first, second and third person narration can be changed and interspersed at will, and each part tells stories in a different way: diaries, letters and even interview records. I write very closely, the sentences are basically long sentences, and the chapters and paragraphs are stacked one after another, as if deliberately challenging people with dyslexia.

This is a story of China rooted in the south of the Yangtze River. Dongyang, Hangzhou and Shanghai are the narrative territories of this novel. In order to write this book, I have done a lot of desk work: consulting family genealogy, asking relatives and friends in my hometown, and looking for all kinds of materials that may be found related to novel creation. I am familiar with their history: Xuefang Jiangtui, 1929 First West Lake Expo, Songhu Anti-Japanese War, Dongyang Anti-Japanese War, and folk customs. ...

Because I have been engaged in journalism for a long time, I can't sit in my study and imagine fictional stories and scenes like a writer. I have followed the footsteps of the hero and heroine in the story, and conducted interviews, field trips and photos with the sincerity of a reporter. For example, in order to describe the protagonist of the novel, I walked by the West Lake in 1929, consulted a lot of historical materials of the West Lake Expo, and walked through the shady Beishan Road countless times. It is also my consideration to show the beauty of the West Lake and the grand occasion of the West Expo in the Republic of China. I require every part and detail in my writing to be as accurate and delicate as possible. It may be silly and laborious to do so, and a lot of content will not be used in the novel, but I know that such efforts are necessary.

Good novelists are or all want to be poets.
Reporter: You have been engaged in literary creation for more than 20 years. What is your personal understanding of poetry and novels?
Lu Wenli: I spend all my writing time in my spare time. I seldom go out during holidays. I will go to the supermarket with my sons in advance to buy enough food and supplies. In the next few days, I will cook and write at home. The situation is often like this: when cooking is near, my sons will knock on my door and probe and shout: Mom, it's time to cook! As soon as I turned off the computer and put on my apron, I went to the kitchen to cook.
This is a slow book, which took ten years from brewing to completion. The novel needs polishing. Unlike writing poetry, writing poetry depends more on inspiration. Writing long stories can become a daily life, similar to buying food and cooking. Six years ago, I wrote a book of poems dedicated to the West Lake. I have seen the beautiful scenery of the West Lake for too long-Impression Poem 100. At the beginning of writing, I felt uneasy. I thought the West Lake had been described by scholars in previous dynasties. Can you write it in another way? But I soon got over the idea.
At the beginning, I had self-doubt when writing novels, for fear that others would say that poets could not write novels well. Later, I learned that writing is a private matter, so I should write as easily as possible and express it as I can. I wrote this novel for myself and my grandmother. I believe that novels have a sense of form, just as poetry needs poetry, but these are not mysterious things. The key is that you must calm down, roll up your sleeves and start writing.
At the World Chinese Tourism Literature Seminar held in Hong Kong in June 2009,
Reporter: Which role do you prefer, poet, writer, journalist or editor? How to balance the relationship between work and hobbies in daily life?
Lu Wenli: If I had to choose, I would rather be a poet. Writers, editors, poets, novelists, essayists ... only the suffix of the poet is a "person". German writer Gunter? Glass said that a good novel was born from poetry. I also want to believe that all excellent novelists are or want to be poets. The poet in my eyes may not be wild or cynical, but a good poet is someone who can see the world clearly and love the imperfect world.

Writing is an exercise.
Reporter: Modern society is becoming more and more impetuous. How can I calm down and read and write? Can you tell me your message to young reporters?
Lu Wenli: Writing is not an interesting thing. If you're not going to sit on the bench for ten years, you'd better not do it. Young journalists should first write a good manuscript and do their job well. When they reach a certain age, if they still have ideas about words, they might as well start writing from the people around them, because you are most familiar with them, and you can put aside utilitarian distractions.
When I went to india tourism, I saw many ascetic monks. In fact, writing is like a kind of practice, which is equivalent to banishing yourself to an empty land. I don't know where to go home, but I believe that walking itself is a kind of arrival. The process is more meaningful than the result.

Writing is a slow thing, but we are in a fast time. In a very fast era, doing a very slow thing requires more concentration and endurance. We can't blame this society for quick success and instant benefit, and the results are often uncontrollable. Focusing on results will only lead to fear and disappointment. Only the process belongs to you, and the process can teach us many things, such as not being distracted.
"A thousand beautiful feelings deeply comfort this life" is a line in the song of the first West Lake Expo of 1929. I like it very much and use it as the title of grandma's epic postscript. Art is beauty and emotion, which nourishes and soothes people. Literature seems to have no practical value, but it can bring us lasting comfort.

Lu Wenli's Granny Epic
comment
A novel that shames novelists.
Read grandma's epic
Fan Yiping
I was surprised after reading Lu Wenli's novel Granny's Epic.
First of all, Lu Wenli changed from a poet to a novelist. Although there are many such examples, such as me. Because of my experience, I know that it is not easy and success is not easy. This situation is not as simple as a player becoming a coach or an editor becoming a critic. Poetry and novels, although both literature, are essentially different, just like women and men, it is difficult to be transsexual or successfully transsexual. But Lu Wenli has changed, bold and successful. She turned over a new leaf and became the novelist Lu Wenli. From then on, a dark horse rushed out of the novel world or phalanx. Although it is not as threatening as her powerful dark horse, it is not as good as her. And I only read one of the four novels, and I have seen that many novelists are not as talented as them, including me. This is a fact.

Lu Wenli's style of writing and narration is beautiful, calm, delicate and skillful, which is another place that surprises me. No one will believe that this is Lu Wenli's first novel, or even writing it for the first time, without reading the introduction and being familiar with the author. Her novel language is fresh and free and easy, delicate and calm, and there is no lack of humor. I can't count a few female writers who have a sense of humor in the literary world, and there is a lack of humor in their writings. Regarding the language of her novel, I just took two paragraphs from the novel:
"Everything I know will be recalled this summer. Even if those past events have been scorched by the scorching sun, evaporated by the earth's atmosphere and blown away by hot air, I will describe the village where the important memory codes of my life are stored. I want to describe an early spring full of rice wine, and build a small village with a hazy color of green water mist on the map of the south China. "
"This time, you will never wake up. You look relaxed lying on that iron bed. Your skin looks good and your neck lines are not obvious, which is rare for a woman your age. Your eyes are too lazy to care about people. Your eyebrows are like a black charcoal stick, which has been carefully painted, echoing the two gray eyelashes under your nose covered with thatch in autumn. There are two peach blossoms on the cheek, and the original sunburn on the left cheekbone is gone. Your lips are also very special today, just like
