1. Course and structure:
(1)AP course and A-level course are different in course setting and structure. AP course is mainly developed and managed by American College Committee, covering more than 30 subjects, mainly in American senior high schools, emphasizing the cultivation of comprehensive and extensive knowledge and thinking ability. AP courses are divided into core courses and elective courses. The core courses include AP language and literature, AP mathematics, AP science, AP social science and so on. Choose elective courses according to students' interests and professional direction.
(2)A-level courses are mainly developed and managed by Cambridge Assessment International Education, mainly including subjects with advanced level of General Education Certificate, emphasizing the cultivation of depth, breadth and critical thinking. A-level courses usually require students to choose 3-4 subjects for in-depth study, and each subject is usually divided into AS level and A2 level. Students need to get good grades in both levels of exams in order to get an A-level diploma.
2. Learning style:
(1)AP course and A-level course are also different in learning methods. The learning mode of AP course is mainly student-centered, focusing on students' autonomous learning and the cultivation of innovative thinking. AP courses usually take the form of small class teaching, discussion teaching and extracurricular activities to encourage students to actively participate in the classroom and show their views and ideas.
(2) The learning method of A-level course pays more attention to the guidance and guidance of teachers, giving priority to teaching, and paying attention to imparting knowledge and cultivating skills. A-level courses usually take the form of large class teaching and extra-curricular tutoring to help students deeply understand and master knowledge points and improve test scores.
3. Student groups:
(1) The student groups of AP courses and A-level courses are also different. AP course is mainly aimed at American high school students, but it is also welcomed by many international students around the world, including students from China. A-level courses are mainly aimed at British students and are also accepted by English-speaking countries, such as Canada and Australia.
(2) In addition to different student groups, AP and A-level courses are also different in curriculum and examination methods. AP focuses on the cultivation of comprehensive ability, and students need to complete seven courses, including 1 language course, 1 social science course, 1 art course and four natural science courses. Each course takes 3 hours, including objective questions and subjective questions, and some courses also have experiments or oral exams. The score of AP exam is 1~5. Generally speaking, more than 3 points can get college credits.
(3)A-level courses focus on deep learning. Students need to choose three to five courses for in-depth study, which must include English and mathematics. Other courses can be selected according to students' interests and career development direction. Each course exam is divided into two parts: AS and A2. AS is the first stage and A2 is the second stage. The length of each part of the exam varies from 1.5 to 2.5 hours, mainly including subjective questions. A-level test scores are divided into six grades: A*, A, B, C, D and E, among which A* is the highest grade.
Generally speaking, the international recognition of AP courses and A-level courses is also different. AP courses are widely recognized in American universities, while A-level courses are more common in universities in Britain and Europe.
