Candidates independently choose 3 college entrance examination subjects.
According to the "Beijing Deepening Examination Enrollment System Reform Implementation Plan (Draft for Comment)", the college entrance examination subjects will undergo major adjustments and changes, which will completely break the situation of separating arts and sciences in senior high schools. From 2020 onwards, the scores of college entrance examination for college students in ordinary colleges and universities are composed of three compulsory subjects of Chinese, mathematics and foreign languages and three elective subjects, that is, the "3+3" college entrance examination model is implemented.
Three elective subjects mean that candidates can choose three subjects as their college entrance examination subjects from six major subjects: ideological and political, history, geography, physics, chemistry and biology. According to this subject reform plan, students will have the possibility to choose 20 subject combinations, which can be freely mixed with liberal arts subjects. This also means that in the future, high schools will no longer be divided into arts and sciences, giving students the choice of three subjects.
Although the subjects have undergone major reforms and adjustments, the total score of the college entrance examination remains unchanged at 750. Among them, Chinese, mathematics and foreign languages are three compulsory subjects, and the full score of each subject is still 150, with a total score of 450; The full score of each of the three selected subjects is 100, so the total score of the college entrance examination is still 750.
