Hohai University's Postgraduate Entrance Examination Professional Catalogue includes Math I or Math II. Is it optional? What's the difference?
You can choose.

Generally speaking, number one is mainly aimed at science students and some engineering students, and number two is mainly aimed at engineering students. Therefore, whether to take Math 1 or Math 2 depends on the major you want to take.

In addition, the scope of mathematics I also includes:

1. Advanced Mathematics (function calculus, limit, continuity, unary function, vector algebra and spatial analytic geometry, multivariate function calculus, infinite series, ordinary differential equations)

2. Linear algebra (determinant, matrix, vector, linear equations, eigenvalue and eigenvector of matrix, quadratic form);

3. Probability theory and mathematical statistics (random events and probability, random variables and their probability distribution, two-dimensional random variables and their probability distribution, numerical characteristics of random variables, law of large numbers and central limit theorem, basic concepts of mathematical statistics, parameter estimation and hypothesis testing).

The scope of Math II includes:

1. Advanced mathematics (function, limit, continuity, calculus of one variable function, ordinary differential equation);

2. Linear algebra (determinant, matrix, vector, linear equations, eigenvalue and eigenvector of matrix).

To sum up, probability theory is not tested in Mathematics II.
