Introduction to Goethe's Selected Poems
Goethe's achievements in literature are various, and poetry is "a bunch of flowers placed at the top of Goethe's pyramid" (in the words of Roman Roland). As Heine said, "Spinoza's theory broke the cocoon of mathematical form and became Goethe's poem dancing around us". Goethe began to write poems at the age of eight. In more than 70 years, he wrote more than 2,500 poems, including lyric poems, narrative poems, ballads and operas. Goethe's poems have many artistic forms. Poetry in youth embodies the gorgeous style of Rococo. After learning folk songs, he expressed his passion with a free body. In Weimar, in-depth observation of nature and life replaced enthusiastic praise. Poetry in his later years is the perfect fusion of Ming Che's wisdom and pure lyricism.
