Copernicus was a famous astronomer. He put forward Heliocentrism in the16th century, thinking that the sun is the center of the universe, and the earth and other planets revolve around the sun. However, this view was strongly opposed and suppressed by the church at that time.
It is said that once Copernicus was observing the sky at his observatory, suddenly an angry mob broke into his observatory. They smashed his instruments and set fire to his house. Fortunately, Copernicus escaped in time and saved his life.
This incident showed the strong opposition of the church to Heliocentrism at that time. Although Copernicus' Heliocentrism has been proved to be correct by modern science, at that time, this view was strongly resisted and suppressed by the church.
This story also reminds us that in the process of scientific exploration, we sometimes encounter all kinds of difficulties and obstacles, but only by persistently pursuing truth can we achieve breakthrough results.
Introduction to Copernicus
Mikolaj kopernik (Polish: Miko? Aj Kopernik (1February 47319–1May 24, 543) was an astronomer, mathematician, doctor of church law and priest in Poland during the Renaissance.
Copernicus put forward Heliocentrism at the age of 40, which changed people's views on nature and themselves. At that time, the Roman Catholic Church thought that his Heliocentrism violated the Bible. Copernicus still firmly believed in Heliocentrism and thought that Heliocentrism was not contradictory to him. After years of observation and calculation, he completed his masterpiece "The Operation of the Celestial Sphere". 1533, 60-year-old Copernicus made a series of speeches in Rome, and finally decided to publish it when he was nearly seventy years old, but it was not until his deathbed that he received a book written by him from the publisher.
1543 On May 24th, Copernicus died at the age of 70.
