Book review 1

Life is only now, and practice is just around the corner.

After many years, I am glad to see that more of my books have been translated into Chinese, and many of the works published this time are the first time to meet readers in Chinese, and my books are also the first time to be published on such a large scale in China. This is a great honor for me personally.

China is the second hometown of Buddhism. In the 2500 years of inheritance and development, Buddhism has become a part of China culture, and China's Buddhist culture has made great contributions to world civilization. In my native Viet Nam, my early Buddhist education began with China's classical Chinese, and my first Buddhist textbook was written in this language. I have never stopped learning to read China's classics since I was ordained. Over the years, I have been doing some translation work, translating many Chinese classics into Vietnamese. I often use Chinese when giving lectures. I like the beauty and fluency of Chinese, which has profound meaning. I will never forget the inspiration and guidance I got from the ancient masters in China. Therefore, I would like to express my eternal gratitude to the teachers in China who have given me infinite kindness.

/kloc-became a monk at the age of 0/6, and it has been 70 years. After going through war and countless sufferings, I am more convinced of my choice when I was young. It is Buddhism that gives me infinite strength and powerful time to compete. Buddhism makes me a calm observer, enabling me to stay awake at all times and observe myself and the life around me. When I was a novice monk, I was inspired by the great Buddhist master Taixu in modern China. There were many similarities between Vietnam in that period and China where Master Taixu lived. My motherland is involved in war, violence and poverty. Facing the compatriots living in dire straits, as a monk, if you just practice Zen quietly or study the code, you are indifferent to everything around you, it must not be the true spirit of Buddhism. So, at that time, I began to take an active part in maintaining peace. What my brothers and I had to do at that time was to put Buddhism into real life and guide our society to change towards justice, freedom and compassion. Because of this belief, although the difficulties at that time were beyond imagination, we persisted to the end.

I warned myself that you must help them put forward a set of Buddhist teaching methods and practice methods that can adapt to our times and go hand in hand with modern concepts such as science, democracy, humanity, ecology and social justice.

1982, I established a meditation base in the south of France-Village des Pruniers, which is a continuation of my belief and a new beginning. Because even in the era without war, people still can't get rid of the troubles of pain and sadness, and human beings are used to being trapped in their inner struggles. This mental struggle is far more painful than physical pain. Only by thoroughly understanding the nature of pain can we really find a way to get rid of it. These have been answered in the teachings of the Buddha. What I want to do, just like when I was young, is to provide a set of Buddhist teaching methods and practice methods that can adapt to our times, transform inner pain, heal spiritual wounds, and let people really enjoy the beauty of the moment.

In the next 30 years, I wrote many books about how to practice Buddhism in daily life, such as Meeting Life, You Can Love, You Can Keep Anger, Walking Together, etc. It is widely recognized in Europe and America. In fact, this also confirms the dilemma of human spirit and how urgent it is to complete the treatment of mental pain through Buddhism.

At the same time, I traveled all over the world and held mindfulness meditation activities in different countries. People learn spiritual practice through meditation activities, practice observing and embracing their own hearts, transform painful emotions and restore inner peace and harmony. Whether it is meditation, meditation, mindfulness, breathing and walking, these are the basic exercises to get rid of troubles and make your heart calm. Through the process of embracing and transforming, we can finally get rid of it and return to a real and peaceful life.

I hope to have more opportunities to exchange and study with friends in China and let more people participate in meditation. I am very grateful to Beijing Zitu Book Company for its assistance and support in this publication, so that more people can be exposed to Buddhism. I think it is gratifying from any angle. Ten years ago, I visited some Buddhist shrines in China and visited many respected Buddhist masters. Their wisdom and knowledge gave me valuable inspiration. I also hope to have more opportunities to talk with domestic wizards in the future.

Book review 2

The best moment.

the Chen Dynasty

It has been more than ten years since I first translated thich nhat hanh's book Peace is Every Step. I still remember that I was attracted by the Zen method described in his articles, especially when translating Mindful Bells and Childhood Cookies, which seemed to be brought to a peaceful and quiet world. That world is not a pure land beyond the reach of the west, but a familiar and close-by world of women.

The following spring, when I finished translating treading on thin ice, thich nhat hanh came to Taiwan Province Province to preach the Dharma, during which he presided over a seven-day Dharma meeting at Baolian Temple in Zhongli. Seven days later, I was lucky enough to be his interpreter, not only benefiting from his announcement, but also paying tribute to the demeanor of a Zen master from his living room. He kept whispering and laughing from the heart.

After thich nhat hanh left Taiwan Province Province, I began to practice in my daily life with the methods he taught me. His teaching method begins with observing breathing, practicing mindfulness from time to time in daily life, so that body and mind can be integrated, and you can see clearly between walking, living, sitting and lying, and your troubles will gradually peel off over time, so that you can live in the present, calm and comfortable.

Besides, he also taught us how to deeply understand the essence of things. Through epiphany, we will find that everything has no independent self, including people. Without sunshine and rain, without the warmth and nourishment of the earth, without the help of other beings, people can't survive in the world. This is what he emphasized, the so-called harmony in Hua Yan Jing, and also the so-called "harmony" in Buddhism.

He didn't talk about some profound theories in Buddhism, but explained Buddhism in simple terms through personal understanding. In his explanation, Buddhism is simple and easy to operate, and there is no mystery. Everything is only in daily life, only in the present consciousness.

Thich nhat hanh was born in central Vietnam on 1926. /kloc-When he was 0/6 years old, he became a trainee monk in Guiyuan Temple and went to the United States to study and teach. During the Vietnam War, he returned to China to engage in the peace movement, which played an important role in encouraging young Vietnamese monks. After the war, his representative was exiled while attending the Paris peace talks and could not return to the motherland for a long time. However, he has been actively engaged in helping refugees. 1967, American black civil rights leader Martin Luther king nominated him for the nobel peace prize. Kim was deeply moved by his peaceful spirit. "No one is more qualified to win this award than this compassionate monk from Vietnam," Kim said in his nomination recommendation. He put the Buddhist meaning of compassion and peace into practice on earth.

Although thich nhat hanh came from Hinayana, Southern Buddhism, he faithfully practiced Mahayana Buddhism. When he was a novice monk, he was inspired by Buddhist thoughts on earth. He said, "If we can apply Buddhism to real life, then we can guide the society towards compassion, justice and freedom."

Seeing that his motherland was involved in the war, he found that the Zen and pure land he had learned could not solve the sufferings of the people around him, so he made great efforts to learn the basic teachings of Buddhism, especially the four noble truths and the eight right paths. He found the doctrine of living happily in the present dharma in the dharma taught by the Buddha, saying: "One of the basic characteristics of the dharma is to prove nirvana now, to be liberated now, and not to wait until death or four thoughts." Through the understanding of the four noble truths, he also taught people how to embrace pain, how to transform pain and how to get rid of it.

When he taught us how to integrate body and mind by observing breathing, he gave his own example: "When I first read Agama's Nothing, I felt that I was the happiest person in the world." He also told us how to settle down in the present, and I have never forgotten his story of Buddha enlightened Moro Zun.

"Before becoming a monk, Moro converted to heresy and wanted to ascend to the throne, thinking that he could get his wish by making a corolla with the thumbs of one thousand people. He has got 999, but he still lacks a finger, so he wants to kill his mother and take his finger.

"At this time, the Buddha observed with his eyes in Lingjiusan. He became a shaman and walked in front of Yang Moro, so Yang Moro put down his mother and went after the shaman. But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't catch up, so he shouted, "Gotama, stop!" " ! Stop it! Buddha said,' I stopped long ago, but you couldn't stop. After hearing this, the Central Ascension Moro suddenly realized, so he put down his butcher knife and followed the Buddha to become a monk. "

According to this case, thich nhat hanh taught us to meditate while meditating: "I'm here, I'm home!" Isn't it? We are always expecting, even if we practice, what news will appear one day, even waiting for the western paradise after death. What are we waiting for? I'm home now, I've entered nirvana, and I've arrived in the pure land of the west! Do we have to wait?

In this book, thich nhat hanh also explained the most mysterious truth in Buddhist scriptures with the simplest words. Heart Sutra and Diamond Sutra, the two most profound books of Zen, are not only easy to understand, but also easy to practice in life. Finally, he explained the dinner lesson and told us how to live in the present. It can be said that it is based on the practice of Mahayana Buddhism, based on the legal meaning of Mahayana Buddhism. It can not only make up for the deficiency of Mahayana, but also save its disadvantages.

I was lucky enough to learn French in thich nhat hanh, so that I didn't go the wrong way when I first entered Buddhism. I haven't seen thich nhat hanh 1995 since he left Taiwan Province, but his free and easy figure and soft French always appear when I am helpless. As long as I think of him, my body and mind will be calm immediately, and my face will naturally smile. Until today, I can understand the music of "The Best at the moment" roughly.

For a person who knows nothing about Buddhism, I don't have the ability to preface thich nhat hanh's article, just because thich nhat hanh's Buddhism teaching is simple and clear, which can avoid many mistakes made by scholars, and in the face of every situation in daily life, I can transform my immediate troubles and feel at ease. So, let's first introduce thich nhat hanh's superficial understanding. I sincerely hope that those who have the opportunity to read this book can live in the present and prove nirvana.

The writer is the former executive deputy editor-in-chief of Zhong Shi Evening News and the author of The Best Now.

Book review 3

Meet the Zen master again

Ming Jie (translator of this book)

I'm glad to see thich nhat hanh's book published again. The Selected Works of thich nhat hanh published this time contains some manuscripts translated by fellow initiates Yao Ming and me more than ten years ago. After learning the news of reprinting, we revised these manuscripts again to make them more accurate.

Thich nhat hanh is a French Buddhist monk of Vietnamese origin who enjoys an international reputation. Most of his works are synthesized by his own speeches, so he is colloquial. Reading his books, you won't find Buddhism abstruse and obscure, on the contrary, it is simple and cordial.

Another fascinating feature of his book is that it is poetic. He showed us a poetic and beautiful world in the eyes of the Zen master: blue sky, white clouds, grass, green streams, roses on the roadside, and children's eyes? He taught us to appreciate the beauty we can see anytime and anywhere in life, to feel the freshness and spirituality brought by these beauty, to keep us away from the heat and troubles, and to keep our body and mind cool.

In addition to these poetic parts, he also has some teaching contents, which are close to reality and unpretentious. He insists on the true nature of Zen master, rarely talks about mysterious things, and only teaches us how to think and how to deal with outstanding problems in real life. For example, he not only taught us how to meditate and practice meditation, how to treat parents, teachers, spouses and other interpersonal relationships, but also taught us how to eat, bathe, go to the toilet, answer the phone, drive and use the computer.

I still remember that in the process of translation, we were deeply moved by the instillation of these nuances. After reading these words many years later, we are still moved. Therefore, when reading this part of his content, you may feel dull, but if you can really integrate his teaching into your daily life, then you will definitely get a beautiful and intelligent life.

In the hot summer of 20 10, I met the Zen master and his masterpiece. In my imagination, the poetic beauty in Zen master's book arises spontaneously, like a breeze blowing across my face, sending a ray of coolness to every reader's heart ...?
