Introduction to the Origin of Xiaoshengchu Olympiad

Olympic Mathematics is the abbreviation of Olympic Mathematics.

1934 and 1935, the former Soviet Union began to hold middle school mathematics competitions in Leningrad and Moscow, and named them Mathematical Olympics.

1959 Romanian mathematical physics society invited middle school students from eastern European countries to participate in the first international mathematical olympiad held in Bucharest. Since then, it has been held once a year and has been held for 43 times.

As an international competition, the International Mathematical Olympiad was put forward by international mathematical education experts, which exceeded the level of compulsory education in various countries and was much more difficult than the college entrance examination. According to experts, only 5% of children with extraordinary intelligence are suitable for learning the Olympic Mathematics, and it is rare to reach the top of the international mathematical Olympics all the way.

The scope of Olympic Mathematics is beyond the level of compulsory education in various countries, and some topics are much more difficult than the college entrance examination, even mathematicians find individual topics difficult. Through such a high-level competition, we can find mathematical talents as early as possible, and then train them to make them stand out.

In recent years, many famous universities and key middle schools at home and abroad pay more attention to the talents of Olympic Mathematics, and usually select outstanding students through Olympic Mathematics. Universities such as Peking University, Tsinghua and Fudan University have a preference for students with outstanding Olympic Mathematics. Every year, many students who have achieved excellent results in the national high school mathematics competition directly enter the mathematics department of Peking University without taking the exam.

At present, all kinds of extracurricular mathematics classes and training courses which are much higher than classroom mathematics teaching content are named "Olympiad" one after another, which makes the cultivation of "Olympiad" gradually break away from the track of selecting Olympiad athletes and highlights the characteristics of universality. Although many well-known mathematicians and mathematics educators have called for vigilance against the deviation of "Olympic Mathematics", the subtle relationship between the results of "Olympic Mathematics" and secondary school enrollment makes the expansion of the connotation of "Olympic Mathematics" unstoppable. All kinds of extra-curricular mathematics training sponsored by schools and organizations with strong pertinence in various cup competitions have been put on the coat of "Olympiad Mathematics", which has become synonymous with "Olympiad Mathematics" by breaking away from textbooks and emphasizing skills.

In Beijing, Olympic Mathematics has become an important means for well-known middle schools to select high-quality students from primary schools. In order to let their children take the lead in the competitions in junior and senior high schools, parents in Beijing will let their children take part in various forms of Olympic Mathematics tutoring after school, and Olympic Mathematics has gradually evolved into a popular subject in primary schools. ;
