1955, with the approval of the former Ministry of Petroleum Industry, petroleum geology, drilling and oil production were separated from the former Sino-Soviet Mine Technical School, and Urumqi Petroleum School of the Ministry of Petroleum Industry was established.

1In August, 958, in order to meet the needs of the exploration and development situation of Karamay Oilfield and cultivate the petroleum construction talents of all ethnic groups urgently needed in the oilfield, Xinjiang Petroleum Institute was established on the basis of Urumqi Petroleum School, as proposed by Nanchong and Yumen meetings of the Ministry of Petroleum Industry and approved by the people's government of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

The care and support of the central government and leaders at all levels have pointed out the direction for running Xinjiang Petroleum Institute well and greatly inspired the teachers and students of the whole hospital. 1984 Xinjiang Petroleum Administration Staff University merged into Xinjiang Petroleum Institute. From 65438 to 0999, Xinjiang Petroleum Institute was restructured into China Petroleum Xinjiang Training Center (Xinjiang Petroleum Institute), which was responsible for all kinds of training for employees of petroleum and petrochemical enterprises. In order to make full use of the remaining teaching resources, the Center cooperated with Xinjiang University, Karamay Vocational and Technical College, China Youshi University and Northeast Petroleum University to continue full-time academic education and online correspondence education.
