1, pronunciation. Cantonese and Vietnamese are very similar in pronunciation and spelling, and Vietnamese consonants and vowels correspond to Cantonese regularly. In addition, there are strict corresponding rules between the eight tones in Vietnamese and the nine tones in Cantonese.
2. vocabulary. Besides a large number of Chinese words, there are many words in Vietnamese that are the same as those in Cantonese (some of these words are from Cantonese and some are from Zhuang).
3. grammar. Although Vietnamese and Cantonese belong to two different language families, due to the influence of southern minority languages such as Zhuang, Cantonese and Vietnamese have similarities in some grammatical usage.
Besides, Cantonese speakers are more likely to learn Vietnamese than non-Cantonese speakers. But we should not relax our minds because of these similarities, because they belong to different language families after all.
