The Department of Anesthesiology of Peking University Third Hospital has been developing vigorously under the leadership of experts such as Jin, Jiang and Zhang Liping for more than ten years. Since May 2009, Professor Guo Xiangyang, deputy director of the Department of Anesthesiology of the former Union Medical College Hospital, has become the new academic leader of this department. There are 19 operating rooms and 2 post-anesthesia recovery rooms in the central operating room of the Third Hospital of Beijing Medical University. In addition, there are six decentralized operation areas in the reproductive center, endoscopic center and the campus of the Central Party School. Each operating room is equipped with imported all-around anesthesia machine, imported ventilator and monitoring equipment. In addition to routine monitoring of patients, there are many kinds of equipment used to monitor anesthetic gas, invasive pressure, BIS, muscle relaxation and cardiac output.
The number of operations completed by the Third Hospital of Beijing Medical University every year ranks in the top five among the top three hospitals in Beijing. In 2008, about 26,000 cases were anesthetized, of which general anesthesia accounted for about 46%, and large and medium-sized operations and complicated complications accounted for about 40% of all anesthesia. Anesthesiology also provides preoperative visits and pain treatment clinics.
Anesthesiology has always attached importance to education and teaching, and many teachers in the department have won the title of excellent teachers at all levels.
