How to feed the piglets, what are the skills?
According to some data, the mortality rate of piglets within 1 week after birth can account for 60% of the total mortality rate, and the main causes of death are freezing, hunger and diarrhea. To prevent the death caused by the above factors, we must do a good job in heat preservation and pressure prevention, let piglets eat enough colostrum, fix nipples, supplement iron and foster care.

A. Thermal insulation and pressure protection

Newborn piglets require high ambient temperature because of their poor thermoregulation function. Cold conditions can freeze piglets to death, which is also the cause of crush, hunger and diarrhea. The suitable environmental temperature for piglets is 65438+32-28 degrees in 0-7 days, 28-25 degrees in 8-30 days, and 25-23 degrees in 3 1-60 days.

Because "little pigs are afraid of cold" and "big pigs are afraid of heat", it is necessary to create a warm microclimate for little pigs alone. The best way is to set up a piglet incubator in the litter box, hang a 250-watt infrared light bulb in it, leave a hole for piglets to go in and out freely, or lay an electric heating plate in the piglet box. Although these methods are limited to the small environment of piglets. But it also has a warming effect on the whole delivery room. Some pig farms in Canada use ventilation pipes to blow cold air directly to sows, so that sows will not be affected by the rising temperature in the delivery room. This method is worth learning.

B. eat enough colostrum

Because of the special structure of pig placenta, newborn piglets have no innate immunity, so they must eat colostrum to gain immunity. Colostrum can stimulate the activity of digestive organs, promote meconium discharge, increase nutrition and heat production, and improve resistance to cold. In addition, colostrum is rich in immunoglobulin, so it has the ability to resist diseases. If newborn piglets can't eat colostrum, the survival rate is very low.

C. Fix the nipple

Newborn piglets have the habit of grabbing nipples and fixing them in China. Because the real milking time of sows is only 10-20 seconds, if the nipples of newborn piglets are not fixed, it is bound to miss the milking time because of the competition for nipples. At the same time, fighting for nipples sometimes makes sows fidgety and stop milking. In order to avoid the above phenomenon, piglets must be fixed with artificial assistance within 2-3 days after birth.

The principle of fixing nipples is to fix the big and strong piglets on the nipple with less milk in the back and the small and weak piglets on the nipple with more milk in the front, so that the whole litter of piglets can develop neatly.

D. Foster care and cohabitation

If the sow suffers from agalactia after delivery or the number of live piglets exceeds the effective nipple number of the sow, foster care should be implemented. If there are two litters of sows at the same time, and one litter is less than six, the two litters of piglets can be combined into one litter. Under the condition of birth control, several litters of piglets born at the same time can be mixed and recombined according to the size and strength, so that each litter develops evenly.

In the implementation of foster care, the sow's farrowing date should not exceed 3-4 days, and the piglets in foster care must eat colostrum. In addition, the big piglet will be fostered in the first litter, and the little piglet will be fostered in the back litter.

A. iron supplementation

The reserve of iron in newborn piglets is very small, only 30-50 mg. Each pig needs 7-8 mg per day, but only 1mg of iron can be supplemented from milk, so if iron is not supplemented, the iron in piglets is only enough for one week. It will inevitably lead to iron deficiency anemia.

The method of iron supplementation is very simple, and iron preparations can be injected within 2-3 days after birth. Intramuscular injection of 100- 150 mg iron into the neck can ensure that piglets do not suffer from iron deficiency anemia during lactation.
