How to make clocks and watches by hand

operational approach

0 1

Press the bottle cap on the cardboard, draw a circle along the bottle cap with a black pen, and then cut it off with scissors. Then glue the cut round cardboard to the cut cardboard.

02

Then cut out a small circle of 12 from the remaining cardboard for use, and mark the number of 12 on the clock.

03

Then mark the time division line evenly on the dial with a black pen, and mark the whole point with heavier marks.

Then, the cut 12 small round cardboard is fixed and pasted to the corresponding 12 position on the hour with glue.

Finally, write the corresponding numbers on the 12 small cardboard in turn with a black pen.

04

Then the pointer. First draw the shape of the pointer on the paper, and then cut it out with scissors.

Glue it and fix it on the dial with a needle.

Creative Jason Chung with DIY cans.

Today we are going to share a creative Jason Chung made of waste cans.

Materials:

Empty tuna cans (or other short-walled iron cans large enough to accommodate clock devices)

Clock motion

Super clay

Disposable wooden chopsticks

Waste paper board

Double-sided tape or magnetic stripe

Step 1: Clean the jar.

Ensure that the odor in the tank is thoroughly removed and the sharp edge of the tank mouth is polished.

Step 2: Make the watch panel.

Because we are making a fashionable and modern clock, I will choose five colors of super clay to make the dial! The color and pattern design of the dial are entirely up to you.

Put a piece of A4 paper or wax paper on the desktop to keep the area clean.

Squeeze the clay of each color to make it softer and easier to use.

First, make the background color (white) and spread it into a thick circle with the same size as the opening of canned fish, with a thickness of about 2-3 mm.

Gently press the jar mouth on the clay to make it print the mark of the jar mouth.

Step 3: DIY color and shape dial.

Expand each color into spots of different sizes, and then put them in the background to become your favorite composition. If you want a specific shape.

When you are satisfied with the composition, smear the face again and flatten the color and shape into the background. With the dispersion of clay, the composition may change, and the outline of the circle you made will disappear or become larger.

Draw a circle on the clay again according to the opening of the jar, but this time it should be aimed at the part to be cut.

Use wallpaper knife to cut a little as cleanly as possible on the inside of the mark. The cutting you are going to do now will be displayed on the clock, so please keep it as clean as possible and close to the production line. Remove excess clay.

Step 4: Cut the center hole.

Now we need to make a hole in the center of the face to make the hour hand stand out. We need to find the center of the dial.

Measure the diameter of the clock face with a ruler. This will not be an accurate measurement, because we don't know where the exact center is, and the difference is not too much. The following figure

Then draw a square with the same size as the circle you measured on a piece of cardboard or paper. Draw a diagonal line on the square and cut it out. Use wallpaper knife or scissors to make a hole at the diagonal intersection. The following figure

Align the squares on the dial. Poke the hole in the center with a pencil tip, so that it will leave a mark in the center of the clay surface. The following figure

Now, visually align the washer in the clock kit with the center point just determined. Press the washer gently, mark the clay, and then take it out. This will leave two ring marks: the small ring is the size of the clock shaft inserted into the hole, and the large ring is the outer edge of the washer. The following figure

Use wallpaper knife to cut a hole on the edge of the mark that can pass through the watch shaft. Remove excess clay. The following figure

Step 5: DIY watch pointer

In order to match the hands with the dial, we can modify the hands appropriately.

Choose three different colors of clay, pinch a small ball as the hour hand and minute hand, and roll a string as the second hand.

Flatten the ball of the hour hand and minute hand into a circle to fit the end of each hand.

Let the rope wave as long as the second hand.

Step 6: Baking

In order to harden the dial and pointer decoration, it needs to be baked or dried in the sun. Put all clay blocks into a glass baking tray and bake in a 275-degree preheating oven for 20-25 minutes. When they cool, the clay should be hard, but because it is too thin, it may become brittle, so handle it carefully.

Step 7: Assembly

Prepare all accessories to be used, as shown below.

First, put the large silicone pad of the watch core into the watch shaft, as shown below.

Then insert the dial into the watch shaft as shown in the figure below.

Pad the gasket and tighten the screws as shown below.

As shown in the figure below, install the hour hand, minute hand and second hand in turn.

When installing the second hand, gently press it as shown in the figure below.

The dial is installed as follows.

If your water tank is higher than the watch core, we can pad it with cardboard. The following figure

Here we use a glue gun to fix the watch core, of course, we can also use good quality double-sided tape to fix it. The following figure

Finally, put the assembled dial into the water tank. The following figure

Fix it to make sure it doesn't fall out, as shown below.

Step 9: Add feet

We use disposable chopsticks prepared in advance to cut off the length of about 2cm as shown below.

Fix it in a glue gun with heat capacity glue, as shown below.

Measure the position of the clock pin to be fixed as shown in the figure below.

Glue and fix as shown in the figure below.

Finally, complete a simple and fashionable creative clock. A friend with hands-on ability might as well be one.
