Lu's personal experience
When he was a child, his parents took him to the seaside for a holiday every year. Good food, beautiful scenery and love for parents became what he later called "childhood blessings" in his book. He wrote the beautiful gardens and landscapes he lived in as a child into his works, symbolizing love, mystery and immortal life.

There are books everywhere in his house, and every room is full of them. He later wrote, "In the afternoon when it rains, I like to take books off the shelves one by one. I can always find a new book I like to read, just like walking in the field, I can always find a new page." Most of his favorite books are novels, biographies and history, including the travels of little people and humorous sketches by Mark Twain, especially the animal cartoons in the famous British humorous magazine Clumsy. He writes fairy tales and gets inspiration from them.

At the age of 8, Jack's mother had an operation for cancer. He knelt down and prayed for her recovery. As he later said, "God was neither a savior nor a judge, but a magician" because he believed that faithful prayer was effective.

His mother recovered quickly, but two months later, her cancer recurred and she died soon, which happened to be her father's 45th birthday.

Of course, during this time, he kept praying; He later admitted that the magician was not responsible. "When I pray, I have neither love nor fear for God."

But the death of his loving mother made him feel that "all the happiness and tranquility in the world disappeared quickly, and I lost my sense of security, like a continent sinking into the sea."

He/kloc-entered school at the age of 0/0, and he was shocked to see the headmaster beating the students with a stick at every turn. But I found comfort in the services of two churches on Sunday. He first came into contact with the core Christian faith and began to read the Bible sincerely and pray to the Father. On the other hand, his reading range has also expanded. Besides the Bible, I also read Science by H.C. Wells, Sherlock Holmes by Conan Domi and King Solomon's Treasure by Sharjah.

Two years later, the school was closed because the principal was insane, and he was released and transferred to another primary school. He said that his education really started now. However, little Jack came into contact with some heresy with strong paganism and superstition here, and was attracted by it, giving up his faith. He later called it "Pilgrim's Retreat". These days, he became addicted to reading fairy tales and began to write small poems.

/kloc-At the age of 0/5, he won a scholarship and entered Marvin Public College. The school rules are strict and the courses are boring, but his head teacher is a funny teacher. "He was the first person who taught me how to recite poems and put my feelings into it." He began to read the poems of Roman poets Virgil, Horace and others. Then read Milton and Ye Zhi.

After studying in this school for 1 year, I moved to England to study literature with the famous teacher Cobbett Rickett, and finished reading Homer's epic in just two days. He has great respect for his teachers and likes his teaching methods.

The next three years will have a great influence on his life. He said that his teacher's home is simply a book city and a paradise for reading. He began to learn Greek and Latin here, and read numerous classics extensively. He said: "I can read as many books as I want, and the space is infinite."

19 14 12.6 He accepted the confirmation ceremony of the church and received the Eucharist for the first time. Later, he wrote: "I don't believe it at all. I am eating and drinking my own sin." I can't understand the meaning of what I did, but I know I lied in a serious manner. " He admitted that he officially joined the church in order to please his father.

What he really accepts now is agnosticism. He believes that "all religious beliefs are people's own myths and inventions." But this is also the time when his talents began to be appreciated by teachers and friends: his teacher Kobertrick said, "He is the most classic student I have ever taught and the cleverest student I have ever seen translating Greek plays." Koch urged his father to send him to college.

This university is Oxford University. "Everything here is far beyond my wildest dreams." When he wrote to his father, he said, "I have never seen such a beautiful place." This happened in 19 16 65438+ February, when he was only 19 years old. He passed the scholarship exam, and The Times published the list of winners, and his name was impressively listed. The enrolled college is University College, which was founded in 1249 and is the earliest college in Oxford University. The poet Shelley studied here.

Although he won a scholarship, he still had to take the entrance examination of Oxford University, and "Elementary Arithmetic" was one of the required papers. He knew nothing about arithmetic, so he went back to Mr. Ke for a vicious course.

At this time, the first world war was in full swing, and Britain implemented the conscription system. In the Qing Dynasty, Lu was originally from Ireland. He could have been exempted from military service, but he was willing to be a volunteer. The university college accepted him. He signed up to join the army through the Academy's officer training camp, and later served as the lieutenant of the 3rd Battalion of Mauricet Light Infantry, and moved to Europe. Before the end of the European War, he was injured by a bomb and sent back to London hospital for treatment. He was disarmed in February 65438 and returned to Oxford the following year 1 month.

Two months later, his first book of poetry, The Bound Spirit, was published, which greatly inspired his writing career. Excellent grades in school, won the first prize many times. 1in the spring of 925, he was elected as an English language researcher at Magdalene College, Oxford University. In October of that year, he moved into the college and became his home for the next 30 years.

Here, he made many friends, mostly atheists. The greater his academic achievements, the farther away from Christian belief. But at this critical moment, he met two people. One is N. Coghill, a professor of English literature at Oxford University, who was regarded as "the most intelligent and knowledgeable person" at that time. He is a Christian. The other is J.R.R Tolkien, an Anglo-Saxon professor at Oxford University, who is also a Christian. Under the influence of these two people, he began to experience the experience of St. Augustine 1600 years ago: "I don't love anything, but there is a power in my heart to love; I have hidden needs in my heart, and I hate myself for not needing them ... "

Lu gradually became another person, or he gradually became a real person: "I am like a snowman, and now I begin to melt, starting from my back and pouring down bit by bit." I don't like that feeling ... "

Finally, one day, he admitted that God really existed and asked him to surrender completely and jump out of the darkness. 1929 Easter, Lu "repented and admitted that God is God. I knelt down and prayed. That night, I was probably the most frustrated and reluctant prodigal son in Britain, but I turned back. "

Recalling the days after his death, his brother Hua Ni said, "Jack's return to Christ for a new life is not a sudden leap, but a slow and gradual recovery from years of mental illness. His' illness' originated from childhood and was infected by rigid religious regulations and empty church school education. " Lu turned around and said, "I went from believing in God to absolutely believing in the incarnation of Christ and accepted the Christian faith." He really woke up.

In the middle of the 20th century, Louis became the most powerful and popular Christian defender in the English-speaking world. 1954 was elected Professor of English Literature in the Middle Ages and Renaissance at Cambridge University, and his literary criticism papers were handed down from generation to generation. He is a teacher deeply loved by students.

His theology and literary works with theological depth have long been widely known. Therefore, he is known as the "apostle who preaches the gospel to skeptics" and is praised by churches all over the world.
