Mrs. Zhan, a ceramic mother, was born in Shinan Village (now Jinchuan Town) in Xin 'gan County in 243. She died in the first year of Daxing (3 18) at the age of 75 and was buried in the east of Poyang County, Jiangxi Province. Tao Kan lost his father at an early age, and his family was poor, so Mrs. Zhan had to take Tao Kan back from Poyang to grandpa's house. Tao Mu made a living from textiles and adopted his son to study in Tao Kan. Zhan's family education can be said to be rigorous, teaching his son to cherish Yin and be eager to learn, establishing the ambition of making contributions, and edifying his son with loyalty, obedience and diligence as virtues. For this reason, Tao Kan always takes poverty as his pleasure and is eager to make progress. He has been studying at night with his mother since he was a child, working under the smell of chickens.
