Nowadays, children begin to learn English very early. Do you think it necessary to start learning English at the age of two or three?
Recently, I have been thinking about a question: should I concentrate on my children's English learning?

The child is now in the first grade, which should be the key period to master the child's English. I just want to catch my children's English study now. I should say that I have finished the calculation.

You can go to the major media platforms. Many parents start to learn English, watch English enlightenment cartoons, listen to English nursery rhymes and read English picture books when their children are 2 years old. Often in many videos, it is enviable to see that children can speak clearly in English when they are only 6 or 7 years old and answer questions with foreigners.

Of course, the acquisition of such English ability must be inseparable from the great efforts of parents. After all, we have no such English environment. To reach this level of English, we can only rely on a lot of input from our parents.

Therefore, it should be said that it is too late for me to consider catching children's English learning now.

In fact, I have long wanted to cultivate children's English, but I have always had some concerns.

Is it worthwhile to spend so much time and energy learning English? Among all kinds of subjects, probably nothing is more popular than English.

Many parents began to catch their children's English learning at the age of 2, but did you see them start to catch their children's Chinese learning and math learning at the age of 2? There may be, but certainly not many.

Furthermore, look at the children's learning apps on the market, which one is the most? It is English. There are also self-media people who teach children English.

In short, parents have a strong demand for English learning since childhood, which is accompanied by the most such training on the market. The more publicity, the more anxious parents will be, which will further promote more parents to catch their children's English learning.

Then why do parents attach so much importance to their children's English learning? Because childhood is a critical period of language learning, grasping it can make children learn English with half the effort in the future.

People's language ability gradually declines with their growth. The more children there are, the stronger their language mastery is. I don't need to emphasize this point, and many related studies have proved it. It is also based on this point that the earlier children are trained in English, the better for their future English learning, so many parents who attach importance to their children's learning will focus on their children's English learning.

Well, since the key period of learning English is childhood, shouldn't I learn English in childhood? What else should I worry about?

What worries me is that the efforts to learn English are not proportional to the gains.

Is English important? It must be important. It will be one of the three main courses in the college entrance examination in the future. You don't think it's important? But in the long run, English is the least important.

For most people, English is doomed to be useless in the future.

I also studied English and passed CET-4. Everyone who went to college should be like me. At the beginning, in order to learn English, I also racked my brains and spent far more time and energy than Chinese and math. But what about the result? When we graduate, most of us don't need it at all.

In other words, English is useful in addition to the college entrance examination, in exchange for high scores and diplomas, which are worthless to most people. In other words, we spend a lot of time and energy, even money, which is useless except for our college entrance examination.

This is really sad.

And with the development of AI technology, the level of machine translation is getting higher and higher. Perhaps in some respects, AI translation is almost impossible, but for most ordinary people, it is more than enough. In the future, when you travel abroad or communicate with foreigners, there will be no major obstacles. This also shows that English is relatively useless.

Moreover, children's time and energy are limited, from 2 to 7 years old, that is, five years. If we put our time and energy into English learning, we will inevitably ignore other aspects of children's development, which is almost certain.

That is to say, although childhood is a critical period for learning English, in the long run, English is of little value. It consumes a lot of time, energy and money, and it also affects other aspects of children's development. In exchange, it may not be used in the future, so it is not worth it.

Now children practice writing and do homework every night, leaving a little free time to play. There is no extra time. If they want to master English, they must give up some other studies. Moreover, it is not enough to give up an estimate if I want to catch my children learning English. It is estimated that the main task every night is to learn English, and all other studies will be given up, which really makes me unacceptable.

This is my current concern about catching children's English learning.

So do you want to learn English or not? Personally, I think it depends.

If the family is well-off, children are likely to go abroad in the future, and English still plays a great role. Parents had better do their children's English study well from an early age.

However, if the family situation is average and children are not expected to go abroad in the future, English early education will let nature take its course. You know, English early education not only needs a lot of time and energy, but also needs a lot of real money. You can't teach yourself English at home. You must create a specific environment. If parents don't have this ability, they will definitely go to training classes and practice with foreigners, and neither will be less invested.

Moreover, English, which has been cultivated with a lot of time and money, is likely to be of no use in the future except for the college entrance examination. It is really not worth the loss. It is better to develop some useful skills for children.

Some parents may say that it is also useful for the college entrance examination. That's true, but if you spend this time and energy in other ways, it will also be useful for the college entrance examination. For example, it is good for children to practice good handwriting in Chinese, and it is good for math to play games to exercise their thinking. ...

Any effort is rewarding, and the key is for parents to figure out what they want.
