The founding emperors of other dynasties all killed heroes (including suppressing heroes, the same below), but Li Shimin hardly did. Although he still killed Hou and Sean, this is only a tiny part of this huge hero group. Li Shimin not only didn't kill the hero, but gave the hero great preferential treatment, and put their portraits in Lingyange, giving them a respected position. Such a situation was unimaginable in other dynasties.
So, why didn't Li Shimin kill the hero so abnormally? Isn't he afraid of hero rebellion? There is a view that Li Shimin didn't kill the hero because the Li Tang family came from a noble family. Li Shimin is more confident than Liu Bang and Zhu Yuanzhang, the founding emperors from the grass roots. There is some truth in this statement. The founding emperor, who was born into a noble family, killed fewer heroes in history.
Such as Liu Xiu, Liu Bei, Sui Wendi, etc. Due to the long-term influence of the ancient bloodline theory, the common people generally think that a family of noble birth is more qualified to be an emperor, so it is more supportive. But in fact, this statement cannot be absolute. Some emperors, such as Emperor Wendi of Sui Dynasty, Sima Yan and Si Marui, who were born in noble families but didn't kill the founding heroes, all suffered tragic endings. Their descendants will soon be unable to control their children, and the country will be taken away by those ministers who hold power.
The founding emperors Liu Bang, Zhu Yuanzhang and others killed heroes and national fortunes. Li Shimin didn't kill heroes, nor did he deliberately restrict their power, but his country is still very long. There is another view that Li Shimin didn't kill the hero, because most of the heroes are Li Shimin's lineal. As a small group, it makes sense to get closer to the king and kill less.
For example, Han Xin, Peng Yue, Ying Bu and others were killed by Liu Bang, but they were not their own clique. However, this statement is also wrong. For example, Hu, Li Shanchang and Aquamarine killed by Zhu Yuanzhang were actually his own clique. And among the heroes killed by Liu Bang, Lu Wan is not only Liu Bang's clique, but also his best friend. Also, those who were relieved of military power by Zhao Kuangyin were all his brothers.
So the root cause is not the problem of small groups. But whether the hero's power had an impact on imperial power. As long as it has an impact, even small groups will kill it. But why didn't Li Shimin kill him? I think there is a very special reason why Li Shimin didn't kill the hero. In the previous article, I once analyzed the phenomenon of killing heroes. In my opinion, the reason why "killing heroes" became the inevitable action of the founding emperor was because the founding emperor tried his best to maintain the "imperial power system."
Only by killing heroes can we establish an "imperial power system" very effectively. However, Li Shimin's "Zhenguan Rule" in his early years was nothing more than a pure imperial power system, or an imperial power system mixed with democratic consciousness. Li Shimin's practice is unique in the whole history of China.
Later emperors didn't want to learn, and they couldn't. After Shunzhi came to power, let the ministers discuss which ancient emperor's political system should be studied. At that time, many ministers suggested to the emperor shunzhi that they should learn from Emperor Taizong's "Zhenguan". But in the end, Shunzhi said that he should learn from Zhu Yuanzhang's "Hongwu rule" instead of Tang Taizong's "Zhenguan rule".
And "the rule of Hongwu" is obviously a very extreme imperial power system. We say that Li Shimin's "chastity view" introduced "democratic consciousness", which is mainly reflected in his "teachability". Originally, the imperial power system did not allow ministers to speak, but ministers could only execute them. However, Li Shimin attaches great importance to the "teachable" approach, and even what his former rival Wei Zhi said, he can accept it humbly many times. In this way, ministers can actually make different voices under the imperial power system.
Then, why should Li Can people implement this "imperial power system mixed with democratic consciousness"? This is because the situation in Li Shimin is special. He killed his brother and forced his father to ascend to the throne. Of course, Li Shimin didn't want his image to stay in history, so he was tolerant of others during his administration, including his subordinates and former enemies. He wants to be a tolerant person to the maximum extent, so that he can patiently listen to everyone's constant preaching.
In this way, Li Shimin finally realized his wish. He really left an excellent reputation in history. However, apart from Li Shimin, no other emperor has done this. First, there is no experience like him, second, there is no desire like him, and third, there is no endurance like him. In addition, "Zhenguan rule" itself is somewhat contrary to the imperial power system. Therefore, Li Shimin has become an isolated case. (Reference:
